Available in two packaging formats, both with quality tamper evident packaging for safety:⁠⁠
🥗 Standard packaging with a 7 day shelf life, and ⁠
🥗 MAP* (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) with a 14 day shelf life⁠
⁠What’s the difference? ⁠⁠
Our standard products are packaged in high quality clamshells and bags that keep the products safe and fresh and have a 7-day shelf life. ⁠⁠
But for operations that need more shelf life, we also carry a MAP packaging line. MAP products are packaged in sealed trays where the oxygen is replaced with other gasses to give it a 14-day shelf life. ⁠
Not only do they look great on your shelf, but they may also help to reduce waste by giving you a longer shelf life. ⁠⁠

"When growing up, we had a small kumquat tree in a planter near the pool, so I think of kumquats as a pool snack because we would pluck them from the tree, pop them in our mouths, and jump into the pool. Though it’s a bit too large to pop in your mouth, the Indio mandarinquat is one of my favorite members of the kumquat family.

These gorgeous Indio mandarinquats are from . Like all her fruit, Laura’s mandarinquats are pristine and delicious—the best iteration of this variety.

Records indicate that this variety was a designed cross between an old Nagami kumquat tree with pollen from a Dancy mandarin. The budwood was delivered to the US Date & Citrus Station in Indio, 1972.

The name Indio mandarinquat was not crafted and workshopped. UCRCC notes state: “[Mandarinquat] is scheduled for release to the industry for trial as an ornamental in 9/89. It needs a name. M. Roose suggests Indio mandarinquat; and, since no better names have come forth, that's what we will probably call it.” No quote has better conveyed a shrug. (M. Roose is UC Riverside’s iconic botanist, professor, geneticist, citrus researcher, breeder of citrus and asparagus, and developer of the Tango mandarin, Mikeal L. Roose, who apparently missed his calling as marketing genius)

Although initially thought to be an ornamental, mandarinquats are delicious. The peel is sweet, like a kumquat, and the flesh is very juicy and tender, and a bit tart. So like a kumquat, it’s best to eat the peel and flesh at the same time, in order to combine the sweet and tart. Mandarinquats are great sliced into salads or desserts, muddled into drinks, and eaten fresh, as a pool snack, but it’ll take you two or three very refreshing bites."
