We've been getting calls lately from folks looking for chicks, ducks and such. Someone let us know that Rock Island Farm is showing up high on google searches for these.

Please know that we do not sell chicks, ducks or any fowl. We like them, but we've never raised or sold them. There are a few chickens in our front yard some times, but they are wandering over from a neighbor's place (we don't mind).

If you want to buy chicks from a store, Blue Seal in Bangor and Aubuchon Hardware in Old Town have carried chicks in the spring, in past years.

We are officially no longer a hay producer. Our baler broke this spring, and parts were held up until fall due to the pandemic. We lost the season. It doesn't make sense to start up the haying again here, given our ages, and financial considerations.

I'd like to thank everyone who bought hay from us over the years. I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed meeting all of you, and I'll miss seeing you.

Sold out of hay for 2020. Thank you.
Other resources:

https://extension.umaine.edu/livestock/hay/ Cooperative Extension maintains separate lists of hay and straw producers.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/414887715356790/ This FB page may be helpful during a hay shortage, as it includes postings from people who may decide to ship hay in from other parts of the country and resell, or small buyers who want to sell what they have for whatever reason.

Be cautious of scams. There have been numerous attempts by fraudulent straw buyers. Visit Maine Attorney General’s site for notices. To edit a listing: email us with updates or when sold out. To submit a new listing: complete the Maine Hay Directory Form. Need Straw? Visit the Maine Straw Director...

New veggies just coming up. We have five in ground vegetable beds this year, of varying sizes, along with six raised beds. Two more raised beds are planned. The photo from today shows the veggies just starting up in in-ground Bed #1, which is 60' x 25'. This bed has: carrots, potatoes, Brussels sprouts, bush beans, some of the brocolli, cauliflower; celeriac, zucchini, yellow squash, and three hills of winter squash. Most of the winter squash is in other beds.

First and second planting of bush beans are up.

Mulch hay at the barn for $3/bale. This hay could be fed, but the bales are funky shaped or loose, so won't stack well.

We will be haying again in mid-July, weather permitting.

(2020) We have started haying. A neighbor has bought feed hay.

However, we expect to have some mulch hay for sale for $3.00/bale at the barn later also, once get some in the barn.

We did not hay in 2018, for reasons beyond my control. However, the plan is to hay in 2019. I will post here when there is hay available. Thank you.

We are all out of 2017 hay. Thank you!
