We are hiring – Farm and Food Processing intern

Farm and Food Processing Intern (Paid)

Our organic farm business: Clean Food Farm is a 10 acre diversified certified organic nutrient dense blueberry farm with an on-farm Freeze Dry plant located near Orting WA.

Duties: Pruning, fertility management, assist with berry harvest and storage, transplanting seedlings, assist with food processing freeze dry, packaging line during harvest season, operate w**deaters, use basic hand tools

Anticipated start date: May 12, 2025 (or sooner)

Requirements:

• Have reliable transportation to get to and from farm job site – we are not near any public transit
• Integrity / Honesty
• Strong work ethic
• Dependable – keeping time commitments
• Physical ability to: lift/load 30 lb cases, walk on uneven ground, use hand tools, have stamina to work without getting winded, able to safely work around blooming plant pollen (we are a farm after all)
• Teachable: Able to follow directions and receive constructive feedback
• Able to read and write basic English (labels, instructions)
• Able to do basic arithmetic

There will be a trial 90 day period.

Hours: 20-40 hr/week depending on season – if you are still in school we can work around your schedule (within reason—but only daylight hours- no night shifts.

Compensation: based on proven skills and experience (Hourly) Starting at $18 per hour eligible for raises after 30 days with good performance.

Farm Apprentice – Ages 17 to 24 (Pierce County sponsored)

Our organic farm business: Clean Food Farm is a 10 acre diversified certified organic nutrient dense blueberry, pastured poultry farm located in the Orting Valley, near the town of Orting WA.

This is a 4-5 month job term – 10 to 35 hours per week – people in school can work part time on weekends and full time during school vacations

Starting wage $17 to $22/hour depending on skill level

Ages-we cooperate with Pierce County this job is for ages 17 to 24 years old – if you are older than 24 years old you will not qualify – per Pierce County

Requirements:

• Verifiable experience involving manual labor
• Verifiable transportation to get to and from the Orting farm location
• Integrity / Honesty
• Strong work ethic
• Dependable – keeping time commitments
• Physical ability to:
• lift 40 lb bags of feed up to 10 times/day, lift/load 30 lb egg cases
• walk on uneven ground
• ability to bend / twist at torso to use manual and powered hand tools
• manual dexterity -- ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
• Foot-hand coordination (to operate motor vehicles, tractors)
• stamina -- The ability to exert yourself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath.
• Near and far vision (corrected to 20/20)
• Teachable: Able to follow directions and receive constructive feedback
• Good verbal and written communication skills (able to read simple instructions and to write)
• Able to interact positively with the public for farmers market

Desired – but not required skills and experience: (we will train as well)
• operating and servicing small engines (rototillers, string trimmers, mowers, etc.)
• operating and basic servicing small tractors
• Assessing and drafting standard operating procedures for various farm, marketing, business tasks
• Semi-skilled trade skills (safe operation of power tools and hand tools)
• Minor carpentry, electrical and plumbing
• repairing fencing
• operating and maintaining irrigation systems (well, overhead, drip)
• planting and pruning woody perennials and trees

Duties: Assist in farm repairs and remodelling

Must have reasonably good driving record-will require a Motor Vehicle Record check.

Job benefits (negotiable) seasonal farm food

Applicant must provide at least two work references have their own personal vehicle (with auto insurance)

Clean Food farm is an organic farm located in Orting WA. We are hiring a part-time field Intern willing to put in 20 hours per week for 6 months (This is an LNI approved Internship which you will get a certificate of completion)

Flexible hours - just needs to be during day light hours or during Sat or Sun. . Starting January 24, 2022
