๐ DID YOU KNOW? ๐ฏ
Every jar of Rustic Simplicity honey begins right here in the Osakis area.
Our bees aren't shipped around the country. They live and work right here in our community. We have hives on our farm east of Lake Osakis, at a local apple orchard, and on the west side of the lake near a honeyberry farm.
Honey bees can travel up to 3 miles from their hive in search of nectar and pollen, but we work hard to provide food sources close to home. Over the years we've planted fruit trees, herbs, vegetables, prairie habitat, and hundreds of flowers including bee balm, asters, goldenrod, sunflowers, hyssop, catmint, zinnias, cosmos, echinacea, and many more.
Why does that matter?
The closer nectar and pollen are to the hive, the less energy bees spend flying and the more energy they can spend raising healthy brood and storing honey.
A few fun bee facts:
๐ A worker bee visits up to 5,000 flowers in a single day.
๐ It takes roughly 2 million flower visits to make one pound of honey.
๐ A worker bee produces only about 1/12 teaspoon of honey during her lifetime.
๐ Bees communicate through a special "waggle dance" that tells their sisters where flowers can be found.
When you purchase local honey, you're supporting local pollinators, local agriculture, and a family/veteran-owned farm that's committed to creating habitat for bees and other beneficial insects.
Thank you for supporting Rustic Simplicity and our hardworking bees. โค๏ธ๐
