Well, the trip to Kansas City didn't go as planned. 😕 The clutch decided to give out climbing the I-435 hill, leaving dad to coast uphill to the shoulder. We made a phone call to Buddy, who quickly had us on the hook and off the roadway. We brought a 2nd semi down to grab the loaded hopper trailer, and back on the road to Bartlett. Having friends in time of need is a blessing, and having friends with professional equipment turns a bad day into a mild inconvenience. Thanks for the great work Scottys Towing and Recovery!!

It has been a busy 1st week of planting season. Over 500 acres of early 3.5 maturity Burrus soybeans- paired with our starter in-furrow mix (7gal/ac) from Concept AgriTek. That mix includes the products of Total Phos (50/50 ortho & poly phosphorus), Soil Revive (microbes for soil health), Sweet Success (natural sugar source for boosting plant metabolism), Concept Z9 (9% zinc product), Carbon Rx (carbon blend to aid in nutrient absorption/intake), & Nutricharge (aid phosphorus to not tie up in the soil). Once again planting beans early in the year seem to pay off. These 3.5 maturity Burrus beans were planted March 24th behind 10 tons to the acre of cow manure. Fungicided and an extra shot of Nitrogen with sugar late season.

Thanks to Concept AgriTekConcept Agritek for coming out today and using a brand new tool for tissue testing. This leaf scanner gave us instant readings on what the plants have or are needing for nutrients. Comparing this tool to a traditional tissue testing come back with very similar readings!

Father/Grandpa Earl Grimes passed away Sat May 24. Earl always had a passion to farm, enjoying the long hours on the tractor or combine. He continually looked to new farming practices, or different genetics to help grow the industry. He was an avid supporter of the American Agricultural Movement- spending time with the farm strike in both Washington DC, and Jefferson City capitals. Earl farmed alongside his wife Thelma, and together they built a family that has grown to 4 generations of love and compassion. Please share any memories you have of Earl Grimes, we would love to hear them! Service information: Visitation is Thursday May 29, and funeral is Friday May 30. Please see attached photos for more details. Grandpa Earl loved farming with a passion that was only 2nd to the love of his family!

Grimes Farms is officially done with !! Both Case & Deere planters are back home! Thank you to both Burrus Seed & Concept AgriTek for helping us have a successful planting season- we have a great start going into 2025!
I crawled out of the largest high tech planting machine we operate, and got a chance to enjoy the simple laid-back style of yesterday's technology-putting the sweet corn in today! 78 yrs difference of doing the same job- planting seeds to feed a growing world!!
