This lambing season has been a little rougher than our normal season. We have had to assist several ewes in having their lambs. We have had a couple ewes that haven't been very good mothers. Unfortunately, we have lost 3 lambs, either at birth or shortly after. We still have four ewes left to lamb before our lambing season is over. All of this being said, it hasn't been a bad lambing season, just rough.

Lane is old enough now that he helps with and is beginning to truly understand the whole process. He has watched a ewe have her lambs naturally. Then the same night he watched us pull lambs when the ewe needed a lot of assistance. He cleaned the first lamb off, got her dry and made sure she was willing to eat all while we worked on pulling the second lamb. Then he experienced the disappointing but very real possibility that all the lambs might not make it no matter how much work you put in when we got the second lamb pulled and she was dead.

So eventhough this lambing season has been rough, I wouldn't say it's been bad. Our daughter has experienced lambs for the first time, and our son has had a lot of learning experiences. I only hope these experiences will make him more interested in how things work on the farm and help to make him want to continue to learn.

A few of our girls and their babies. We still have 4 mommas holding out and dragging on lambing season.

It's been awhile since we've posted any updates. It has been a pretty crazy summer between the arrival of our newest little farmer, a promotion at my "day job," a pretty serious injury in the family, and all of the normal day to day jobs that we never seem to have enough time to get done.

That being said, we have 5 wethers ready for someone's freezer, all weighing in at over 100 pounds. Our ram, Mac, is in with the ewes putting lambing time starting middle of March this coming spring. We had 3 calves, 2 heifers and a bull, born around the time that our little farmer made her appearance. They are awesome looking calves but have been a pain to keep in the pasture because apparently electric fence doesn't phase them.
