On August 12, 2026, at 9:49 p.m., the Oshkosh Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 556 W 5th Avenue - Player's Pizza & Pub. The fire required a large response from our department; fire crews quickly deployed hose lines and worked to attempt to contain and extinguish the fire.

No injuries to occupants, patrons, or responding personnel were reported; the cause and origin of the fire is not currently determined.

We would like to extend our appreciation to the Town of Algoma Fire Department, the Town of Oshkosh Fire Department, and the Village of Fox Crossing Fire Department for their support; we are incredibly proud of our firefighters, officers, and chiefs for their professionalism, teamwork, and tireless efforts throughout the incident. Our thoughts are with the owners, employees, their families, and the many community members who support this local business.

Recently, members of our dive team took part in dive training to continue sharpening their skills.

Training like this takes hard work, dedication, and teamwork — both in and out of the water. Our team trains regularly so they are prepared to respond when our community needs them most.

We are proud of the commitment our team shows to public safety and to serving the residents and visitors of Oshkosh.

At last year’s EAA event, Oshkosh Fire Department personnel responded to a gentleman having a serious medical event. Thanks to the quick actions of the patient’s close friend, Alan, who immediately began CPR, along with the coordinated response from emergency crews, the patient’s life was saved.

Alan was selected to receive the Citizen Life-Saving Award earlier this year in recognition of his lifesaving actions. Although he was unable to attend the banquet or this year’s EAA event, we were able to present the award at EAA to Dennis, the patient, who will make sure Alan receives it.

We are very happy to share that Dennis is doing well and was excited to be back at EAA this year. This story is a powerful reminder of how immediate CPR, quick action, and teamwork can make all the difference in an emergency. Thank you to Alan for his heroic response, to Dennis for allowing us to share this story, and to everyone involved in this lifesaving effort.

Community collaboration in action! 🚒🤝

On Wednesday, the Oshkosh Fire Department presented Bock Insurance Agency with a Certificate of Appreciation for its exceptional assistance during a recent serious traffic incident. Bock Insurance opened its doors and private offices, giving patients a cool, safe place to receive assessments while also supporting our firefighters and police officers at the scene. Their employees went above and beyond to provide comfort, reassurance and help when it was needed most.

Thank you to the entire Bock Insurance Agency team for your care, compassion and commitment to the Oshkosh community.

Our crews are proud to be at EAA, providing fire and emergency response coverage throughout the event.

The Oshkosh Fire Department has a strong presence across the EAA grounds, with firefighters, officers, chiefs, trucks, engines, and specialized equipment positioned throughout the area. This is an event our department prepares for year-round through training, planning, and coordination to help keep attendees, exhibitors, volunteers, and staff safe.

We’re proud of the professionalism, teamwork, and dedication our crews bring to this major community event. If you see our firefighters on the grounds, feel free to give them a wave!

Today, the Oshkosh Fire Department honors and remembers John “Jack” O’Connell, one of only three OFD members to have died in the line of duty.

Mr. O’Connell’s last call came on July 21, 1903. While performing his assigned duties refilling the batteries that powered warning signals on top of the Main Street bridge, he lost his balance; as he reached out to steady himself, he came into contact with an electrical wire along the bridge.

His service and sacrifice remains a part of our department’s history, and we pause today to recognize his dedication to the Oshkosh community.
