Two months ago I posted about the lack of enthusiasm, discussion and participation in Wisconsin BBQ comps.
Since then Social Media has been pretty much "crickets"! The same few people still post but that's about it.
As far as signing up for comps, we've had 4 teams sign up, 3 from out of state. And in the last 2 weeks we have had a KCBS and RCOA comp cancel. The KCBS will never return! Sloppy Hog should have been a 30 team qualifier for MIM but fell short at the last minute.
We have a comp in Green Bay in 2 weeks. Already heavily advertised on tv and radio with several celebrities and a V.I.P. feeding, we still haven't hit 30 teams, and the ribs are provided.
We have a great comp weekend planned in October on hold. And Ken Perkins and I are discussing a Thanksgiving Day weekend event.
We understand some can't pay till later, but at least confirm you will be attending. There are constant posts about cooks doing "test cooks" and posting pics, but I have to wonder what they're testing for since they don't show up to compete.
Unless things change, Green Bay, Hero Support and Appleton Bugfoot will be my final participation in Wisconsin BBQ.

Yesterday, Diana and I, with several friends and family were humbled to say the least as we setup camp at ground zero in Menasha to feed disaster victims, first responders and the many volunteer relief workers. We met and fed people who had minor damage but no power, to a family with 4 kids that lost their whole house and were living in a small camper in a neighbors driveway.
You would have to be there to understand the destruction! But through it all we were able to give these people a minute to chill, smile a little and enjoy, food. For some it was their first hot meal in a week. We had a pretty wide selection to meet all tastes and offered a kids meal that brought dozens of little smiles. Vee Bri and Ryan Britten and Jaclyn Marie ( Infused Organics LLC ) had people delivering to remote areas and those unable to leave their homes. Rachael Moderson hand delivered meals to the more damaged areas and the National Guard. The O.G.'s of Wisconsin BBQ, John Kappell , Laurie and Mike Killey and Misty & Jay Kleiber of Leaky Tiki Smoked Meats manned the grills and Steamtable, while Cindy Thompson filled in the dinners with sides. Couldn't have provided this food without the generosity of Terry, Carol and TJ Beck of Beck's Meat Processing. All in all we pushed 410 meals through that trailer window with over 150 being walked in.. After a week of water, these people were happy to see 200 cans of Doge Energy Drink Lemonade on ice.

Infused Organics and the dozens who dropped off donations. My take ........ there was no grumbling, no talk about the economy, no politics. Just a "Unity" I haven't seen since 911. I saw that the slogan, "MENASHA STRONG" isn't just a motto on a t-shirt, it's the attitude and lifestyle of the whole community!

We will start serving at 11:00 this morning. Please be patient as this is a two part distribution. John Kappell and Diana will be busy preparing meals that will be carried into the east 3rd Street area near Manderfields and the area of Midway Road and 441 near Cut in Stone. Laurie and Mike Killey will start serving Brats and chips to you at the trailer. Thank you, TJ Beck and Beck's Meat Processing for the brats. We have a small swimming pool packed with ice and loaded with water and Lemonade, compliments of Michael Waterstreet and Justin Wiechman of Doge Energy Drink. And Misty and Jay Kleiber of Leaky Tiki Smoked Meats sent dozens of servings of Homemade Banana Pudding. Bear with us ......... if we have food, you'll EAT.

As posted earlier, we will be setup dispensing free meals at Infused Organics LLC starting at 11:00 am Monday morning. We will have a varied menu to reach as many tastes as possible.

BBQ Pork, Chicken & Brisket platters

Bratwurst with sides platters

Hotdog & Chip plates

JUMBO Chili Cheese Dogs and chips plates

Diana and I would like to thank Michael Waterstreet and Justin Wiechman of Doge Energy Drink for contributing many cases of Lemonade that will be kept on ice to refresh you.

If we serve enough people, we will return Tuesday. Our plan is to start with 175 to 200 meals.
