We are taking reservations for halves and wholes now! Ready for pickup at the end of the year.

These pigggies have been happily foraging for turnips and kale in the paddock and fed local, organic feed.

Wrapping up our first garden season! The kids had a blast helping us find all the pumpkins before the frost hit last night. It’s truly amazing to see what can happen after putting a few seeds into the ground.

We’ve learned so much this year! And next year we’ll be sure to plant the pumpkins early enough so that they all ripen before first frost 🀣 Hopefully they’ll do so on their own before going into the root cellar that Jake just updated.

We have a limited amount of pumpkins available for sale, so let us know if you’re interested! There will be a post coming soon of what’s available.

These birds look so happy! I love to see their vibrant energy every morning and evening when we move them to fresh pastureπŸ˜ƒ I wish you could be here to see the anticipation of the fresh grass in front of their pen. Actually, you can! Feel free to stop by anytime. As long as me or Rachel are here we'd love to give you a farm tour!

One of the reasons we chose to get out of the military and move to Rachel’s home in Wisconsin was to raise our own meat, and benefit the health of the land and ourselves.

Did you know that compared to non-pastured poultry, chickens raised on pasture have 91% more Omega 3 fatty acids, 52% less saturated fats, 407% more Vitamin E (apppa.org) and they are way happier! 😊

We have more than we need, so if you’d like some delicious chicken if your freezer, message us to pre-order! They are pastured, and fed local organic feed from s&s grains.

Really felt like a homesteader today! Peeling logs for our future home and setting up our canvas wall tent. I love every minute of working on the farm and with nature. First time peeling logs, and it is actually very fun and very satisfying. Excited to build our house around this beautiful wishbone shaped log!

Whether you eat animals or not, animal agriculture is important for restoring environmental and soil health.

The soil on the left is the result of regenerative agricultural practices being implemented and holds significantly more organic and Carbon matter. Sheep and cattle were carefully managed and rotated on the land. They ate the grass, deposited their urine and dung and were then moved away to let the grass grow back quickly.

The cycle is then repeated at a later date depending on season variability and vegetation recovery. This allows the pulling of carbon into the soil. It is darker because carbon from the atmosphere is now in the soil making it more nutrient rich and dense.

The soil on the right is from a commercial farm that grows grain and uses no animals on the land.

The soil with more carbon holds a lot more water (roughly 150,000 liters of water per hectare for every 1% of carbon that’s added) and is full of microbes.

Animals play a crucial role in regenerating the land and getting carbon into the soil when properly managed.

These β€˜regenerative’ practices also can be applied to crop management through the careful integration of livestock.
