Store-bought canned foods vs home grown, home-canned. For me, it’s a no-brainer.

Reading labels on store-bought food items is imperative, if you’re wanting REAL food and not “food products”. Don’t think that you can just read the front, either. It may sound like a good thing, when the front says “low fat, or “high protein, or even “gluten free”. But, if you turn it over and read the ingredients list, you’ll find some pretty horrifying things, such as Polysorbate 80 (known carcinogen), Maltodextrin (one of the worse things you can put in your body), genetically modified foods, along with a whole slew of artificial dyes, flavors, etc.

One tip: if you can’t pronounce it, why would you eat it? 😉

It’s not the prettiest pasta in all the land, but it’s MY pasta. It will go perfectly with my homemade roasted spaghetti sauce and homemade meatballs. Oh, and we can’t forget the homemade bread and homemade cinnamon rolls!

Homesteading isn’t a glamorous lifestyle. It’s also not a successful one, a lot of the times.

But, we wouldn’t have it any other way!

We love cooking our meals from scratch with our own meat we raised, and our own fruits and vegetables.

While we don’t acquire 100% from our own farm, we are still happy doing what we can, to provide better alternatives to what the “food industry“ offers.

We even raise our own CANDY!
