This garden season has become an accurate reflection of my life…

I made big plans and had even bigger dreams. I spent hours planning every corner, mapping it all out, and buying seeds (so. many. seeds.).

Then God said, “I have different plans.”

He has tested my faith, my patience, my obedience, and my perseverance. He has placed things in my path that I don’t like and that certainly aren’t “my way.”

I’m learning to embrace it. I don’t have to like it, but I can still be deeply thankful for every part of it.

Do I still have a ridiculous amount of seeds that never got started? Yes.
Did I buy a few plants so I’d have something growing in the garden? Also yes.
Have I completely changed my garden and growing plans for this season? Absolutely.

And…it’s okay.

If I learn anything during this chapter of my life, maybe it’s that I don’t always need a plan.

Every day I have a choice: I can be sad about the things that didn’t work out, or I can be thankful for the things that did.

Today, I’m choosing gratitude.

🥦 Tiny broccoli heads are appearing.
🥬 The collard greens are beautiful.
🌽 The sweet corn is growing.
🌿 The rhubarb has done far better than I expected.

Maybe this season isn’t the one I planned…but it’s still full of blessings.

To our customers, friends, farm families, and followers…this is a long overdue post that I have tried to write several times.

You may have noticed we’ve been a little quieter than usual the last few months, and we wanted to share why.

Our family is currently navigating a serious health challenge, and right now our focus needs to be where it matters most. While we remain hopeful for what lies ahead, this season is requiring us to slow down and adjust our plans.

Because of this, our farm stand won’t be fully operational at the start of the season as we had originally planned. We anticipate opening later this summer with limited offerings as we’re able. We we will still have eggs available most of the time. We’ll continue to share updates as our situation allows.

The gardens, farm, and farm stand has always been more than growing food to us…it’s about family, community, and caring for one another. While this isn’t the season we envisioned, we know that sometimes life asks us to pause and put those values into practice. We are okay with this and know that you will be, too.

Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and for continuing to support our little family farm. Every kind word, prayer, and message means more than you could ever know.

We look forward to seeing you back at the farm stand when the time is right. Until then, we’re taking things one day at a time and trusting that brighter days are ahead. ❤️

With love,
Stephanie & Rich

I spent most of my thirties worrying about growing picture-perfect vegetables. I also threw away an embarrassing amount of perfectly good jalapeños because I thought these strange, woody lines on the skin meant they had a terrible disease. Every late summer, gardeners ask me what sort of pest causes these rough, tan scabs. But it’s not a bug, and it certainly isn't a disease. Those little lines actually reveal a very specific secret about what's happening with the water in your garden—and if you like your peppers with a serious kick, finding these marks is the best possible news you can get. Save yourself a few gray hairs, and don't toss them in the compost heap until you know what they really mean. Nature mostly sorts itself out, if you let it.

The coop has been full of drama lately. Two broody hens are on a mission to be as grumpy as possible, and then one of our girls decided to lay THIS. ⬇️🥚

All of these eggs came from our flock. The darker brown egg is a normal size. The tiny one is likely a yolk-less “fart egg,” but that monster egg? It might be the largest chicken egg we’ve ever collected!

I’m betting it’s a double yolk… but has anyone ever seen a triple-yolk egg? We may have to crack it open and find out!

Where are my rhubarb lovers?
What is your favorite way to use it?

This rhubarb custard dessert did not disappoint. She might not win a beauty contest, but she was GOOD. In fact, I think it’s going to make a repeat appearance in the next couple of days.

Any guesses on what we have going on here in the coop?

A) We are preparing to plant veggies in the coop this year in effort to get organic fertilizer straight from the source. Increased efficiency!

B) We imported organic, non GMO, dark sand from Iceland near the Kayla Volcano. It’s believed to repel unwanted predators.

C) We filled the coop with dried, spent coffee grounds for bedding because it smells better than chicken 💩 and makes keeping the coop clean much easier.
