This weekend we tried something different, rubbed down some chuck roasts with some rubs from the Iowa BBQ store and smoked them similar to a brisket. The results were outstanding!! Prep to plate was about five hours and was enough for six to ten people. If you looking for something less time intensive for a smaller football party this weekend, try it out, we have them in stock!

If you are local and looking for a brisket, we have two available for $4 a pound (local pick up only).

What does it take to feed cattle in cold temps like these? Dressing extra warm, making sure equipment is ready, monitoring/chipping out waterers, good bedding and extra feed!!

Here are some pictures from the last couple days. Ice was about three inches thick, it takes a lot of chipping to get it open. About six inches of corn stalks are processed and spread for the cows to lay on. We up rations about 10% in general, but for the bred heifers getting ready to calve it’s tricky. At this stage of gestation the baby calf adds 70% of their size. Any extra energy goes into their calves, amplifying their size and creating birthing complications. We add some low energy hay to their diet to keep them full but focus on improving the environment by getting good bedding, wind breaks and roofs.

We are partnering with Swanstrom Family Farms to offer you Beef Sticks, Hamburger and Beef Roasts. A generous portion of the sale of each item will go to the Eisenhower PTA to support projects for our students. The Swanstroms are a three generation Eisenhower family so this is a special partnership and we thank them for their generosity. If you need meat for the holidays - give this high quality product a try. Orders placed by midnight Monday, December 9 will be available for pick up on Thursday, December 12 from 3:00-3:30 at the school. Orders placed by midnight on Monday, December 16 will be available for pick up on Wednesday, December 18 from 3:00-3:30 at the school. If you need a different pick up arrangement please email or call Principal Dawn. [email protected]

Included in each order will be a ticket for your student to turn in for their chance to win a prize on December 20th. Send the ticket back to school when you receive your order and turn the ticket into Principal Dawn to enter the drawing.
