Anderson Family Farm, Owasso In August of 2020 we bought this 1940’s farm house. We are slowly updating it, filling it full of animals and enjoying the farm life.

We raise show lambs, Nigerian dwarf & Pygmy goats, chickens, & a donkey.

This deer fawn is not good at jumping fences like its sibling and about once a week gets stuck in our backyard until something scares it enough to go running and it eventually gets out. Luckily with this heat we have water buckets and troughs all around the farm for it to stay hydrated until it finds its way back to the herd. We currently have 3 adult deer and two fawns living in our pastures and the neighbors.

Delilah update: We are so happy to say she is on day 3 in a row of living pasture cow life and has been successfully drinking all her meals from a bucket. She is a bit of a diva and will only drink it if it’s a 50/50 mix of milk replacer and electrolytes but this is such a big step for her that we are going to happily oblige. No mucous has been noted in 4 days and we couldn’t be more excited to see her out and about in the pasture.

Delilah update: For the last week she has really been struggling with mucous build up again but has been eating creep feed and grazing when in the pasture so yesterday her doctor and I discussed weaning her off milk replacer since she’s now almost 5 weeks old and seems to do better on creep feed than milk replacer. So today I decided to give her breakfast late and she decided after over a month of tube feeding that she wants to drink her breakfast from a bucket not the tube. So here’s a little milk mustache/beard picture for you all.

Trying to keep these 1 day old 2 lb baby goats going in this heat. This is something we have done in the past for bigger babies when it’s hot out and it has always helped so we are hoping it will for these little ones. The babies climb on and chew on the ice and stay a little more hydrated and hopefully a tiny bit cooler. Also threw a bag behind the fan so hopefully it’ll blow some air that is cooler than an oven.

Also we had them in a real pen with bedding but Maple the little girl kept escaping and laying in the wash bay on the concrete so everyone got moved since the cinder block walls keep her contained better anyways.

When you come out in the morning to do chores and find a surprise.

When we brought this goat herd home 2 weeks ago, we were told that two of these does were two months bred which would’ve had them due in October but we had notice in the past couple of days. It looked like they had bags and would be birthing sooner than that and this morning we came out to Autumn having had triplets. She did lose one, but we have one boy and one girl on the ground that looked to be doing good.

I spent today doing one of the dreaded tasks around the farm that we all need to do and no one ever wants to. Inventory of all of our “Vet boxes”. Here’s your reminder to do it before it’s and emergency and you don’t have what you need on hand. After our recent call to the vet where I was on the phone with him about Delilah and every thing I pulled out of the box I had on hand was expired it was yet another reminder that I needed to reorganize, throw away and reorder whatever I can to have emergency supplies on hand. So what all do you keep on hand for emergencies that we may not remember to buy? I tend to prefer over prepared some items we prefer to stock or have found useful are listed in the comments.
