Having fun after a cool class. I did the following in 5 minutes with 10 minutes of editing to correct format and created the picture:

WHY EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE CHICKENS
Look, I’ll be honest: getting chickens is essentially deciding to become a high-end butler for a group of feathered toddlers who think they’re velociraptors. If you’re ready to trade your dignity for a few eggs and a lot of yard drama, you’ve come to the right place.
Here are the strictly "funny because they're true" benefits of joining the backyard flock cult:

1. The World’s Loudest Garbage Disposals
Forget composting. Chickens are biological incinerators. Did you cook too much pasta? Give it to the chickens. Is that piece of bread slightly stale? Chickens. They will eat anything from leftover taco shells to the literal bugs trying to infiltrate your home. You haven't lived until you've seen a hen sprint across a yard with a whole frog in her beak while four others chase her like it’s the Olympic finals.

2. Free "Garden Consultation"
Owning chickens means you never have to worry about your landscaping again—mostly because it won't exist. They provide a very specific "distressed" look to your yard.
a. Pest Control: They will find every tick, spider, and beetle.
b. Aeration: They will "aerate" your flower beds until the flowers are upside down.
c. Fertilizer: They will leave "gifts" everywhere, specifically on the one spot on the porch where you like to walk barefoot.

3. Chicken TV > Netflix
There is no reality show on Earth as dramatic as the internal politics of a chicken coop.
a. The Pecking Order: It’s basically Mean Girls, but with more feathers and occasional clucking.
b. The "Egg Song": Imagine if every time you finished a task at work, you stood on your desk and screamed at the top of your lungs for five minutes. That’s what a hen does after laying an egg. It’s the ultimate "look at me" energy.

4. Tiny Dinosaur Aesthetics
If you ever feel like life is getting too modern, just look at a chicken’s feet. You are literally keeping descendants of the T-Rex in your backyard. Watching a chicken run toward you for a snack is the closest you will ever get to being a character in Jurassic Park—only the monster is 4 pounds and wants a blueberry.

Feature: Eggs. Expectation: I'll save so much money!" Reality: egg costs roughly $47 after coop upgrades.

Feature: Pest Control. Expectation: No more crickets. Reality: No more crickets, but also no more prize-winning petunias.

Feature: Morning Alarm. Expectation: A gentle, rustic crow. Reality: A 5:00 AM scream-fest because a leaf moved.

Please go to your local farm store and buy all the chicks so I don't end up with more the next time I pick up chicken feed.

ScamRhea is trying to learn to be a chicken. All winter long this pullet would see Dan and pretend she couldn’t walk. He’d pick her up and move her back to her conditioning pen from fall shows. He’d come into the house to tell me he put an injuried hen into the garage. As soon as Dan was out of sight she’d start walking around. Every couple weeks I’d throw her back into the barn, the next day Dan would find an injured hen.

Maybe now that it’s warmer she will quit playing Dan and stay in the barn.

We had a week of 40 and 50 degree temperatures last week. The creepy crawlings started moving. I should have done a winter round of Frontline. 🤦‍♀️

It’s time to start checking for mites! Mites will feed off your chickens, causing reduced eggs, reduced fertility, and will lead to death if not treated.

Dan and I are debating who gets to show him this year. I think he belongs in open, Dan wants him in juniors. Scrappy likes me better, I’m the one that feeds him and carries him around.

Do they actually understand the word “up”? I won’t go into his cage until he’s on that perch.

What a weekend at Dayton Fancy Feather Club! Dan brought Ameraucanas (AOSB division), Marans (Continental division) and Polish (AOCCL division). The competition is tough there, many great breeders under one roof from many areas of the United States.

Dan won Best and Reserve AOSB with his Ameraucanas. He won Reserve AOCCL with his Polish.

To help those who don’t show, each variety (color) is broke down into 4 subcategories: pullet, c**kerel, hen, and c**k. Those subcategories are each judged. Then the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place of the subcategories are judged to figure out which is Best Variety and Reserve Variety. Then all the Best Varieties and Reserve Varieties of that breed are judged to figure out which is Best of Breed and Reserve of Breed. The judge then looks at all the Best of Breed and Reserve of Breed to determine who won Best of each Category and Reserve of each Category. The Best of each Category and Reserve of each Category are pulled and placed onto Champion Row. It’s an honor to make Champion Row! Those categories are judged again to be titled Champion of Large Fowl, Champion Bantam, Champion Goose, Champion Duck, Champion Turkey, Champion Guinea Fowl. Those Champions are judged a final time to figure out who won Best of Show and Reserve of Show. Now that I’ve explained all that to those who don’t do shows…..

Dan won Champion Large Fowl and moved on to receive Reserve of Show with his Black Ameraucana c**kerel!!!!🎉 A huge thank you to Bruno and Stan for setting him up with a great breeding lineage last year! And for mentoring him.
