Feeling a bit disappointed in people today, and hoping this post will make it back to the person in question and they’ll do the right thing.
I put put some flowers out to sell at the road yesterday for $1/stem. I do this from time to time, when I have extras to share from what I grow for myself or floral customers. It was mostly sunflowers and big double flowered zinnias- bright, bold, happy flowers that might catch someone’s eye as they drive by and make their day.
I also grow some different flowers for florists- more unusual types, more muted/pastel colors that designers want for weddings and events. These are purchased as plugs or tubers and they aren’t as easy or cheap as growing from seed. I have a lot of research, time, and care invested in my floral design type flowers.
This week I happened to have extra snapdragons and a few other things than what my floral customers needed, so I put a 50+ stemmed bucket of snaps out with the sunnies and zins. It is the overflowing bucket second from the right in the photo.
Someone took every single stem from that bucket while I was off the farm yesterday. I pulled in and was so excited at first that perhaps another cut flower lover or florist had recognized those special, double flowered “Madame Butterfly” snaps and bought them to use… Only to find no payment in the cashbox. It’s now been over 24 hours and my hope that they were going to come back with cash has gone.
I would love to keep my faith in humanity and keep sharing the bounty with my neighbors but if this is what happens… perhaps not.
