On April 9, River Wind welcomed its first Fell foal. While things seemed straight forward at first, they went sideways quickly - luckily our tremendous vet (Flat River, Dr. Wahl) was attending. After several hours, Bella was making no progress passing her placenta and little Onyx had no suck reflex. The decision was taken to send them to NC State. A week later they are home. Bella had a rough couple of days and prefers to love Onyx from afar. Onyx prefers his sustenance from a bucket. Both are still overcoming health challenges but demonstrating the unbeatable temperament of the Fell pony. While we wish their story had been more traditional, it has turned into something pretty special. 🖤🖤

River Wind is home to eight Fells and hoping too welcome some foals this spring!

There are only about 600 Fell Ponies in North America and one of them was named the 2025 SmartEquine USEA Pony of the Year 🏆

Kimberlake Jophiel is part event horse, part four-in-hand driving pony, and full-time conversation starter at every competition he attends with owner/rider Molly Smith. This mighty pony capped off a season of top-3 finishes with a second-place result at in the Beginner Novice division of the USEA Classic Series at the Waredaca Classic Three-Day Event.
