We’ve been mowing the 5k trail since last season- though we’ve made a few adjustments based on running it ourselves- things like - wow- this hill is way too steep and two of us have fallen down it.

This is almost the final route- just a few more minor adjustments to make sure distance is right. Runners and hikers come join us Aug 1st! https://www.connorridgefarms.com/prairiedairy5k

Our first attempt at wetland restoration (instead of just tallgrass prairie). This spot has been badly taken over by canary reed grass so we’re trying some solarization and smothering techniques- then planting some plugs to see if native cordgrass (and a few other wetland species) can compete with the invasive.

The Prairie is coming out! All that green. It’s so fun to run along and watch it change. This is part of the route for the 5k. I plan to post more clips as it changes through the season. This was May 20th.

The smaller lot we made to rest the prairie doesn’t have much shade, so we reused a worn out party tent. She appreciates it, but also mentioned she’d like a scratching post next.

Lots of eggs and spreadable fromagina for sale this weekend. Some beautiful lupines popping up in one of our remade prairies. We don’t typically include these as they are toxic for grazing but this must have been in an early “North America natives” seed pack when we first started.

Five to ten percent.

That's roughly how much of a field it takes in prairie strips to cut nitrogen loss by up to 90 percent in the areas where they're installed.

Prairie strips are native Iowa plants planted in strategic strips across a field, usually on contours or near waterways. They slow runoff, filter nutrients, and bring back pollinators and wildlife. And you can still farm the other 90-95 percent.

The mozzarella is all gone. Made some nice pizzas
(Thanks for posting) - and here is the last if it topping some enchiladas, with queso inside. I’ve toyed with offering the queso as well- it might be my actual favorite- but only within hours of making it, and you want it still warm …mmmm. We’ll have to talk to the inspectors about if that’s even possible.
