Yesterday, I made a quick trip to one of our closest shows at the Gwinnett County Fair. My two milker entries turned into five milker entries in a failed attempt to help make sanction for seniors.

Thankfully, juniors easily made sanction with twenty-two entries. It’s exciting to see the surge in the LaMancha population in our area!

Our does placed as follows under Judge Will Pearson:
2-3 year olds
Shiloh-2nd place
Shillelagh-3rd place
Sanibel-4th place

Aged does:
Lirit (shown milked out) 1st place
Promise (two years dry) 2nd place

No rosettes in the senior show, but we did cover entries with premium money and earned a little hay money too☺️

We did only bring two juniors, and that’s where we shone this time around.

Intermediate kid
Vidalia-1st place & Grand Champion!!❤️🤍🖤

Vidalia is already a powerhouse of a doeling that I’ve admired in the barn since birth, and I’m looking so forward to her future here!

Senior yearling
Tybee-2nd place

Rachel Rutledge and Angela Rutledge arrived before the junior show, so Rachel got to show her girl Tybee, and they both handled goats for other herds. Then they, along with Angela’s boyfriend, helped me by backing and loading the trailer way more efficiently than I did on arrival!

Huge thanks to Brent Jackson and the Latimers for organizing such a well run show! It was great as always to visit with my goat buddies💛

Multiple paternal sisters have won their dry legs, and our 2yo FF is one leg shy of finishing her championship with limited showing! His dam is one of a long line of consistently lovely mammary systems, and she finished her championship this year. His full sister from 2025 has won her dry leg at her home in Alabama, and his 2026 littermate sister is retained. His maternal granddam, our first finished champion, has been our most dependable brood doe, and has an LA FS of 91VEEE. We were unable to milk test or participate in LA this year, but results from previous years are available.

We’ve had several afternoon thunderstorms that have given us some much needed rain, but today’s storm was accompanied by strong straightline winds that made a mess, broke a few limbs off our numerous trees, and peeled the roof off our hay barn. Thankfully, all of our family, our home, the goats, the goat barn, and our perimeter fencing were all fine. There were only two rounds bales in the hay barn, and only the roof was damaged. The damaged fence got a quick temporary fix, and the goats were pretty happy with all the downed limbs. Not the best day on the farm, but we still have so much to be thankful for.
