Yokna Bottoms Farm A local CSA farm and community of individuals working together to produce locally grown food using sustainable agricultural practices.

Yokna Bottoms Farm is a local CSA farm based in Oxford, Mississippi. It is run by community of individuals who work together to produce locally grown food using sustainable agricultural practices. We provide seasonal fruits and vegetables at reasonable share and half-share prices. Through educational outreach programs, Yokna Bottoms is partnering with local schools from elementary to the university in its effort to make Mississippi a little bit more healthier, happier and cleaner. Primarily, we use a market-style distribution which allows our shareholders to choose the vegetables they want each week. This ensures that all of our neighbors have access to nutritious, fresh produce, something we all need for good health. Non-members can also purchase our produce through the Oxford City Market and the Midtown Market. Whether you are an individual, family, school or business, there are many ways to work with and support Yokna Bottoms! Join our CSA, purchase produce for your restaurant, visit us at the local farmer's markets, take a farm tour or come on out to one of our many fun events throughout the year!

I have waited a few days before eulogizing Wendell Berry. What do you say about an individual who made a profound positive influence on my life, so many others, and our nation and world? Saying I have read nearly everything he has published means little if I cannot explain why. That he was kind, loving, compassionate, elegant, engaging, and brilliant is a start. That his thinking is foundational to my understanding of America; both the beauty, malaise, and destructive and often violent character of its people I would add. I would not be a small organic farmer engaging in growing food and building community without the model of his life well lived. He was not a person who championed wilderness protection and other efforts to maintain unaltered environments although he valued these; rather, Wendell Berry championed humans learning to live in harmony with nature and focused on the damage and what could be done to stop the destruction. His ideas are radical yet they hammer you with common sense with a healthy dose of environmental and economic integrity. Yet, nothing I can say speaks as eloquently as his own words. In 2013, my wife Jill and I went to a conference hosted by the Wendell Berry Center at The former St. Catharine College in Kentucky where we got to meet him, hear him speak, and spend two days discussing with leading environmental activists from around the world. His words I share in the comments are an interview we attended with Bill Moyers. This sum him up perfectly. Thank you Wendell as the sun sets this Thursday evening, September 3, 2026.
