Joseph Herzog has always had a soft spot for **Quartet**—and part of what makes it special is that it was never meant to stand still.

There’s no fixed recipe we’re chasing from year to year. Director of Winemaking David Galzignato has the freedom to select the **four wines that best represent each vintage**, then determine the percentages that bring them together at their best.

Typically, that takes us into the world of Bordeaux varieties. But the final composition? We’re keeping that part to ourselves.

Because Quartet isn’t about recreating last year’s wine.

It’s about letting each vintage tell us what the wine should be.

Four voices, brought together in just the right proportions. A different expression with every vintage—and a perennial favorite for very good reason.

Joseph Herzog and Director of Winemaking David Galzignato are behind the winery with the final white arrival of the season: **Chenin Blanc from our Clarksburg vineyard**, destined for our Special Reserve program.

This has been a passion project for Joseph from the beginning. The goal wasn't simply to make Chenin Blanc—it was to see what the variety could become when given the full Reserve treatment.

From the moment the fruit arrives, no detail is overlooked. These grapes head through our **Pellenc** for destemming before moving through a winemaking program designed to give David and his team every tool available to capture the quality and potential of the vineyard.

This was a passion project—an opportunity to take Chenin Blanc from our Clarksburg vineyard and ask just how far we could push it. Not simply toward something bright and refreshing, but toward a wine with **scale, presence, and serious ambition**.

High in the mountains above Napa Valley, this small vineyard wakes to a very different morning than the valley below.

While fog still settles into the lower elevations, these vines are already reaching into clear skies and early sunlight—one of the remarkable advantages of growing Cabernet Sauvignon at elevation.

More time in the sun. Cool mountain air. Dramatic shifts between day and night. And a tiny, secluded vineyard tucked into a landscape that feels almost impossibly removed from the world below.

Sometimes, you have to pull back to understand the scale of the story.

This is **Camel Back Ridge**, our vineyard high in the Red Hills of Lake County—surrounded by mountains, forests, and seemingly endless California sky.

Last week, we brought you down into the rows to see the young vines taking root in our newest planting. From above, you can see the bigger picture: an extraordinary piece of land expanding across the mountaintop, with established vineyard alongside open ground that represents everything still to come.

Every row here is intentional. Every new planting is a commitment measured not in months, but in years and generations.

Because when we look at this property, we don't simply see what Camel Back Ridge is today.

The **2023 Herzog Special Edition Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon** has earned extraordinary international recognition—receiving **95 points and Gold at the Decanter World Wine Awards**, alongside another **95-point showing at the International Wine Challenge**.

At Decanter alone, 16,631 wines representing 58 countries were evaluated by 245 international judges through a rigorous blind-tasting process.

And among that field stood Rutherford.

For us, recognition like this is about more than a score. It's validation of everything that comes before the bottle—the vineyard relationships, the fruit we pursue, the decisions made in the cellar, and the relentless belief that kosher wine belongs on the world's greatest stages.

High atop **Camel Back Ridge in the Red Hills of Lake County**, a new chapter is taking root.

These young vines are part of our recent expansion at the highest reaches of the vineyard—new plantings surrounded by the rugged mountains, volcanic soils, elevation, and wide-open skies that make this place so remarkable.

Right now, they're just beginning their journey.

But every great vineyard starts exactly here: with a young vine in the earth, years of patience ahead, and the belief that this extraordinary piece of land has even more to give.

For us, this expansion represents more than additional acreage. It's an investment in **Camel Back Ridge**, in the potential we continue to see in the Red Hills, and in wines that won't exist for years to come.
