9/11 is a day I will never forget.
I was 22 years old & I was living in Santa Barbara. At the time, I was the office manager & professional match maker to a dating service called Central Coast Introductions. I usually was the first person in the office, so I’m the one that opens it for the day.
I had just taken a shower & was in my room getting ready for work. As I was getting dressed, I remember having the TV on.
I typically watch the news while I got ready.
What I saw happen on live television was so shocking to me. I felt like I was in a dream. I had to look again at the TV and it said live so I knew what I was looking at was happening in real time.
The shock, the horror and the devastation I felt in that moment was something I’ve never felt since.
That day & the day afterwards shook me to my core, and it made me feel less secure as an American than I ever have, at that point.
For once, it was a real possibility that war could happen on modern day, American soil.
So when my husband and I went to New York 12 years ago, he asked me what things I wanted to see and explore. I told him I wanted to go to the site of where the Twin Towers were & where 9/11 happened.
I wanted to pay my respects & honor those whose lives were taken that day.
When I was there, I could feel a lot. I could feel so much spirit I could feel the souls of the people who have been departed.
My face here is really awkward here because I didn’t want to smile. I was happy to be in New York City, but I wasn’t happy in like a traditional way. It was very mixed emotions that I was feeling.
