🐴 CHIEF UPDATE 🐴

This little guy is one awesome c**t. At just 3 months old he’s got the brains, color and personality to match.

🐎 What an athlete he will be.

We’ve started playing some brain games. Hide and seek is one of his favorites and no matter what I am always “it” during tag 🤣.

Today we took on the next step in our homesteading adventure. ☺️

In the spring we bought 15 meat birds 🐓.
Unfortunately only 11 survived, which is typical when getting baby chicks.

But today! Today was the day we learned how to harvest them. This makes us one step closer to being more self sufficient.

It was definitely a learning curve but it is now a new skill that we will never forgot🤗

Oh and we dodged the rain the whole time 🤣

In case you didn’t know, we don’t have any human kids but we do have :

🦚 - 1 peacock
🫏 - 2 donkeys
🫏 - 2 mules
🐄 - 3 cows
🐈 - 3 cats
🐕 - 4 dogs
🦆 - 6 ducks
🐖 - 7 pigs
🐴 - 15 horses
🐓 - 60 chickens ish

Between vet visits, the feed store, working with the horses and every day chores. Life can be very chaotic!

Today I decided to take Steven riding. Something he hasn’t really ever done.
We don’t get much time to ourselves to enjoy our animals but today we made it a priority 💖. I taught him how to pick hooves, saddle the horse and even hose them off after 😍.
I’m thinking this will quickly become a fun thing for us to do together!

When it rains… it pours!
For those who don’t know, we are located in Northwest Florida, right out side of Pensacola. Up until this week, we hadn’t had rain in 3 weeks and it was dry! Too dry for our liking.
Well this week has been the total opposite. It has rained every day and today it POURED! ⛈️
Everything at the farm is flooded and the poor horses are not loving it 😔.
However, Little Chief got his first experience with a blanket and if you ask us, we think RED is his color ♥️

Well today was another one of those days 😔. Luckily everything turned out okay (for now).

Hank, a newish to us mule and an absolute sweetheart, decided today was his turn to test my true strength.
On Tuesday Hank got his hooves done and while enjoying his pedicure and also enjoyed lots of delicious fresh wet grass.

When I got to the farm Wednesday evening to do afternoon checks and nightly feeding I noticed he was laying down by the gate. I didn’t think much of it as most days when I get to the farm one of the horses is enjoying a death nap (code for let’s freak mom out and make her think we are dying, but really are just enjoying a quick snooze) 😴.
I went in and got him up and made him move around which he did with ease and went on to eat his dinner.

This morning when I arrived at the farm to check on everyone, I notice Hank was back in his same spot laying, again most mornings when it’s nice out, there are usually multiples partaking in this activity. But again I went and got Hank up and watched him walk away. 👍🏻

Fast forward to this afternoon when I showed back up! Hank was once again back in his same spot laying down. At this point I knew something was off so I went right into colic mode. Colic is when a horse gets bloated and unlike humans they cannot burp to expel the gas. It ends up building up and if not caught in time will lead to death.

I quickly went in and got him up. First thing i did was administer Banamine (im a pro at this point) and kept him up for about 15 minutes. After that we went on a walk… and kept walking and walking and walking and walking for about 45 Minutes. The Banamine Is to help with inflamtion and the walking is to help ease the stomach and hope that they p**p or at least pass gas 💨. However the walking didn’t help.

Next step was load him in the trailer. If anyone knows anything about horses, the second you load a horse in a trailer they will leave you a nice stinky p**p and that was exactly our hope and goal💩.

I tied him up and went on to tend to the mini horses eye. I gave him about 20 minutes in the trailer and bam! He left us the present we were hoping for 💖.

Thank god it all worked out cause I don’t think I could handle another emergency vet visit.

Mr. Hank, you tested my knowledge and I am glad it all worked out in the end.

Over the last few days, we’ve taken the time to reflect on all the love we have for our animals and decided to spend a few days “off grid” to restore our emotions.

We are so grateful for all of our friends and family and followers who have reached out to show us love and support.

Yesterday was a truly healing day.
I mustered up the energy to take Roxy out and work with her a little. She did great and made me more confident in the saddle.

It has been a week 😔

When I tell you owning a farm isn’t for the weak I mean it.
The highs are high and the lows are low.

Last friday we welcomed to the farm our newest horse Chief! He is absloutly adorable. On the same day we brought Benji (our stud) home from the vet where he spent 2.5 weeks recieving treatment for a random eye injury. Thank god for Dr. Thompson and Northwest Florida Animal Clinic for saving his eye and keeping him company. 🐴

Fast forward to this week.
We started off our week working with our large horses and getting them trail ride ready for our trail ride on tuesday which was so much fun!!! 🤗

Wednesday we had a Vet call to the farm to finish getting all the horses vaccinated (no big deal, it was planned). However, we quickly realized one of the mini horses had injured her eye and needed to be brought in. So back to tending to an eye injury we went. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thursday we continued to work with some of our large horses and brought one of our male pigs to be castrated (back to the vet we went). 🐖

Friday was another standard vet visit for one of our German Shepards to get her annual vaccines and blood work. 🐕

Saturday was one of the worst days so far. Maui (our silver lab) hadn’t been feeling too great, so back to the vet we went. Unfortunately we received the worst news imaginable. He was in extreme kidney failure and severely anemic. We had to make the hard decision to put him down at the young age of 3. I cried for hours, held him close and told him how amazing he was in his short little life. 😭

Sunday (today) we put on our brave faces and set our emotions aside to bring joy to others. Pony Tales NWFL had a princess 👸🏼 and unicorn 🦄 themed birthday party for a sweet little girl named Alaina. We loaded up crackers and George and made our way out to Gulf Breeze where me wet the sweetest family ever! It filled my heart watching her walk outside to her Unicorn Surprise!

We are now off to enjoy a little bit of quiet time and share a meal with our friends at Panzik Acres LLC.

Today was a sad day for our farm.
We had to put down our best boy due to extreme kidney failure and anemia. 😭

Maui you were a true angel on this planet. At such a young age I wish I could have done more for you. You showed us love, kindness and true joy. Bentley and Bear are waiting for you on puppy heaven.
You will have all the water sprinklers and balls to chase, with endless belly rubs.
Our hearts hurt today 💔 but we know you aren’t suffering any more.

Until we meet again 😔.
Thank you Northwest Florida Animal Clinic for everything you do for all of our babies. Thank you for sitting with me, crying with us and being a true friend in this hard decision. We are forever grateful for this wonderful team that has become our family 💖
