The question I ask myself almost every evening.. is there ever an ā€œearly nightā€ when you have a farm?

The answer is always no!!šŸ˜‚

I found one of our young Modern Game pullets showing signs of becoming egg bound. I scooped her up and brought her in for a warm Epsom salt bath.

This is a reminder of why consistent checks on your birds are so important. If I hadnā€™t gone out for one last check before bed, who knows what condition she would have been in by morning.

During our break from social media, we had to say goodbye to our senior rabbit, Junior, after losing his battle with cancer. šŸ˜•

He was truly the sweetest rabbit you could have ever asked for. He went to several nursing homes and schools as a therapy animal. We did not think we would find a rabbit as sweet to continue Juniorā€™s journey. BUT a rescue opportunity came along.

Although we were not looking for another rabbit so quickly, we ended up taking in a twelve week old angora. He was covered nose to tail (literally) in thick mats. With the help from our favorite vet techs, we spent over an hour getting him shaved down!

In just the few weeks we have had him, he has completely opened up and shown us his playful personality. I canā€™t wait to see his beautiful coat grow back out!!

Although he isnā€™t Junior, we think he will make an amazing addition to the little farm. Maybe we can get him in the schools this fall! šŸ’™

Happy Friday!!

Life on the farm has been keeping us busyā€¦ and sometimes that means putting the phone down.

We have spent the summer enjoying time with family and friends, focusing on our animals and simply appreciating the slower moments. Although we have been a little quiet on social media.. we have been busy around the farm! Below are a few photos from the summer!

The incubators may be offā€¦ but the grow outs are keeping me busy!

These Spangled Old English were offered as chicks and nobody showed interestā€¦ but Iā€™m glad they didnā€™t!

This young quad is really starting to show some potential and Iā€™m excited to see how they continue to mature. Who knows, maybe one of these pullets will find herself in a show cage this fall!

Just a few words to describe our feelings about summer on the farm!

I have been nonstop refreshing waterers, setting up extra fans and even installing a new ventilator to help everyone stay comfortable in the 105 heat index. šŸ„µ

And because thereā€™s never a dull moment around hereā€¦ the new AC unit arrives tomorrow! šŸ«£
