Last night was a devastating one on the homestead. A fox found its way into our adult chicken run and massacred 4 of our beloved chickens. Our sweet sweet rescue hen Chiff aka Miss Chiff (Mischief), beautiful cuddly and extremely round Pebbles, shy and quiet Slim, and our amazing gentleman and ever so kind and huggable rooster Milo, son of the late great Cluck Norris who we also lost to a fox a couple of months ago. The fox also attempted to murder Pidgey, the wonderful hen that hatched out Milo 3 years ago.
We were up until 3 am trying to find our birds (Pebbles is still missing but we found lots of feathers), doctoring Pidgey, burying the 3 we had, checking and resetting cameras, etc.
To say we are heartbroken is saying the least. Some would say they were just chickens, but not to us. We love each and every animal on our homestead. We've raised them and kept them well past their prime egg laying time because we enjoy their company. We talk to them, they greet us at our cars when we come come. We love them all, each with their own personalities. They are our friends, we are mourning their loss.
