Bees do far more than make honey.

In 2016, seven species of Hawaiian yellow-faced bees became the first bees ever added to the U.S. endangered species list. These tiny native pollinators are found in Hawaii and play an important role in helping some native plants reproduce.

But the bigger warning goes far beyond those seven species. Around the world, bees and other pollinators help support many of the foods people love — including fruits, vegetables, nuts, coffee, and crops like strawberries and avocados. Without pollinators, these foods would not all vanish overnight, but many could become harder to grow, more expensive, or lower in quality.

That is why “save the bees” is not just a cute slogan. It is about protecting habitats, reducing harmful pesticide use, planting native flowers, supporting local ecosystems, and understanding that even the smallest creatures can hold up parts of the food system we depend on.

A world with fewer bees would not just be quieter. It would be less colorful, less fruitful, and far more fragile.
