I wish everything grew so effortlessly as grapes. Plant them once, with minimal upkeep, and you have food for years to come! We’re having a banner year for them despite the fact that they were not watered through the entire winter season. This morning’s harvest barely makes a dent :D

We feverishly worked in the garden today to harvest what’s left before the big freeze tonight. Lots of green tomatoes to ripen, Basil, and evening some surprise tomatillos! We’re not doing a winter garden this year. We have to get the rat issues under control.

It’s going to be a bumper crop for Mesquite pods this year. No water, not much fuss. That’s my kind of crop.

This year’s garden has been such a struggle thanks to rats but the tomatoes are a winner. I’m not sure the variety on the left but it has yellow stripes. On the left is purple Cherokee. Both were so delicious. I have a lot more. Going to make some splendid sauce :)

Waldo has been sharing his home with some rowdy youngsters. They have a smaller coop within the bigger enclosure. They got to play together today. He wasn’t too happy about it at first but seems ok with them now.

When using berry flats for seed starting it helps to line them with cardboard and griping the cardboard soaking wet before adding the seed starting mix. This helps to hold in the soil and also moisture.

We have a new member of the flock. He has a broken wing and will likely never fly again. A friend of mine rescued him in Vegas and nursed him back to health. Unless he is able to fly again he’ll be staying with us for the long term so I really need to find some duck friends for him. 🙂 For now he gets visits from the chickens on the other side of his enclosure.
