And for you Parkland veterans, just want to show the newly graded entrance road. It's a little rocky but gone are the big ruts and washouts caused by heavy rainstorms over the last several years.
Here's a couple picking tips for when we open on Monday, July 15:
-pick only totally blue ripe berries;
-check to make sure there is no red on the back of the berry, "redbacks" are not as sweet as fully ripe berries;
-a picked blueberry will stay exactly as you picked it, it will not ripen further after picking;
-the best way to pick a blueberry is to 'roll ' it off the stem with your thumb, this gets berries off the stem the easiest while preventing damage to the remaining berries in the cluster;
-use the picking boxes; picking hands free is the easiest and fastest way to pick.
One last reminder:
Parkland has blueberries only.
No strawberries. No raspberries.
Blueberries are developing nicely! Still a couple weeks to go. The access road has been regraded, and with a little raking, will be in fine shape for the picking season.
