Ozzy has left the homestead!
We have big changes coming after taking some time to REALLY think about and discuss what path we want to go down with the homestead.

The first and probably biggest of those changes is the decision to not do the milk goat thing again after this year. Considering I’m not a huge fan of milking Ozzy (small teated kicker😅) she was the logical first choice for downsizing. I definitely didn’t expect her to go so quickly! I will miss her constant stare and the way she would run me down for anything in a crinkly bag🥹

I think Oz is going to fit in great at her new home and wish her new family all the best with her. Give her all the head scratches for me guys!

In case anyone was wondering why some goat owners hobble their goats back legs during milking….

The summer solstice has passed and the seasons egg boom has ended. We are going to have less egg availability as our aging flock starts to slow down for the season.

They haven’t started yet, but the Summer is flying by and Autumn will be here before we know it!

We believe in letting nature do as nature does and do not use artificial light to stimulate egg production. As a result, we get less eggs a year, but our hens get to live their natural cycle without the demand of laying through the colder, lower light Maine Fall and Winter.
Some of our older hens will be retired this year to make room for the pullets. One of which is totally not a pullet.
His rooster name is Stephan, originally Stephanie. Isn’t he handsome? 😂🤦🏻‍♀️😅🤣

New to the stand this year…

A big ol’ calendar whiteboard to keep track of bake days, availability, and any other little things
we would like our customers and guests to see!

I’ll be posting the calendar when it has been updated each month and it’ll be pinned right at the top of our page, so it’s always easy to find.
If there are any changes made throughout the month they can be found in the comments on the pinned post.

Bake days: fresh baked goods will be available at noon on bake days!

Have a great rest of July everyone! ❤️❤️❤️

The kids are home and vacation has ended.

Chocolate Fudge has left the nest with her 5 hatched ducklings. Unfortunately she still had 2 eggs actively hatching and they were both cold but alive! My incubators are packed away, so I put the two eggs under a chicken that has been broody FOREVER in the hopes that they will finish hatching successfully and break her broodiness.
If you’ve been following our ducks hatching journey and you’re wondering why I didn’t just put them under my other broody duck… the answer is simply that I don’t want her to abandon her clutch that hasn’t started hatching yet if these two hatch.

We now have ducklings boom boom, firequacker, and dawn❤️❤️❤️

Chocolate fudge hatched 3 more ducklings overnight! That’s a total of 5 ducklings and only 2 eggs left to hatch!
