Palisade Hop Farm

Palisade Hop Farm The farm has been in our family since 1991. The boys grew up and left home - as boys do - and left an empty pasture behind.

We kept the land in hay and pasture for a small flock of Finn sheep owned by our younger son and a Holstein cow (named Hop) owned by our older son. In August of 2009 the decision was made to put the field to work producing hops. With the help of family, the field became a “hop yard” in June of 2010. As a friend told us during planting, “There’s plenty of wine grown around here - It’s about time somebody grows beer.”

The timing of life events, business commitments, and future ambitions have merged this late summer and we have made the decision to halt our hop farming operation. We will be selling some of our equipment and Chinook, Cascade, Crystal and Mt. Hood crowns. Contact us if you're looking for something we might have available.

Looking forward to next year with a different concentration.

We've been working on straightening trellis lines for the last few days. David knew he had to replace a couple of posts this season, but it turned out to be more than a couple. When the new posts went in and the cables were re-stretched, the lines were not where they should be. Now they are. Well, most of them.

We are taking orders for spring Rhizomes: Chinook, Cascade and Crystal available. We may also have a small amount of Mt. Hood Rhizomes this season.

Winter trellis work when conditions permit. David took this yesterday while tightening cables.

Waiting for the FedEx Freight Semi to pull up in front and deliver our new flamer. Looks like someone just gave a snow globe a good shake out there.

More harvest photos from yesterday and today. The Grand Mesa over the Chinooks, Mt Garfield from the crows nest, another trailer load of Cascades, Me and little sisters, Robyn (Dobber), and Daisy (TC). I get a feeling of happy contentment working with my sisters, there's an unconscious rhythm we fall into that just feels right. Add to that the fact that they're kick-ass capable hard workers. All good.
