Our brewery is a tribute to Luke Hammons, Brian’s great-grandfather, who we all called “Papa”. Growing up, Brian could always count on Papa to be able to build or fix just about anything in his old garage and workshop. Countless science fair, woodshop and mother’s day projects were fashioned in that old garage using antique tools that Papa had acquired over the years. Also in this garage were his

beloved “Old Chevy”, his 1963 Impala and Mimi’s 1969 Camaro. Brian grew up learning how to work with his hands in that garage and developed a love for old American cars. When not working in the garage, Papa spent his evenings in the “playroom”, his home addition including his bar, pool table, wood burning stove and console TV. On any given day, you might hear Hank Williams or Marty Robbins blaring from his old console TV while Papa sat at his bar reading the daily paper and drinking a beer. On other days, you may catch a showing of his collection of 8mm family films flickering on the wall, or a game of pool with aunts, uncles and friends. Brian discovered his love for brewing beer in a quest to “get back to basics” with his wife Samantha. The idea was to be able to identify where every ingredient on their dinner table came from. Samantha had succeeded in doing so with the many from-scratch meals she made for them, so Brian set out to learn how to create from scratch, the craft beers he loved so much with those dinners. As with many things he does, brewing evolved into far more than just a hobby. He went from brewing beer using Samantha’s cooking equipment in the kitchen, to brewing on a handmade home brewery in their garage, to this – their own craft brewery. Papa passed away in 2009, but we like to think he would be proud to sit at his new bar and look admiringly at his meticulously restored Old Chevy, and some of the other trinkets and relics that made his garage and playroom wonderful places to be. In here you will find special relics once belonging to Papa, as well as a few beers named after something you may find in the old garage and playroom. We brew our beers with a passion for every element and process that brings these hand crafted beers to your palette and want nothing more than to raise a glass with you in memory of, and in tribute to the special people in your life.
