🇺🇸🌾 Happy Alaska Day from Pioneer Peak Farm! 🌾🏔️
Today, as we celebrate Alaska Day, we’re reminded that the history of this incredible state is a story of courage, determination, hard work, and people who believed in what this land could become.
In 1935, more than 200 families made the journey north to the Matanuska Valley as part of the historic Colony Project. They came with hopes of building a better future, bringing with them the determination to turn unfamiliar ground into productive farmland. They faced long winters, challenging conditions, and countless uncertainties. But they persevered, helping lay the foundation for the rich agricultural heritage our valley enjoys today.
That legacy is deeply personal to us.
Since the 1970s, our family has had the privilege of caring for and farming the land that is now Pioneer Peak Farm. For almost 50 years, this soil has been part of our family’s story. It has witnessed generations of hard work, sacrifices, changing seasons, challenges, and blessings.
We’ve come to understand that owning land and being a steward of it are two very different things. Land is not simply something we possess. It is something entrusted to our care, with a responsibility to preserve its productivity, honor its history, and leave it better for those who come after us.
We are grateful for the pioneering spirit of those who came before us, for the families who helped establish agriculture in the Mat-Su Valley, and for the opportunity to carry that agricultural legacy forward.
As Alaska continues to grow and change, we hope we never lose sight of the importance of our farmland, the people who work it, and the ability to grow food right here at home.
We are not the beginning of this land’s story, and we hope we are far from its final chapter. We are simply grateful to be its stewards for a time.
Happy Alaska Day! Here’s to honoring our past, caring for what we’ve been given, and cultivating a future worth passing on. ❤️
