This spring is looking a little different compared to previous years and seems to be more frustrating in ways and less in others but I will always try to see the happy side of things. I think a few less goats are in order lol posts of who’s available coming soon!!

Last week the baby goats were feeling their oats. Naturally chaos ensued.

At two weeks old the kids are eating some hay and grain. They are already chewing their cud. These wild things will be heading outside now that it’s no longer subarctic. The girls were disbudded last night and boy I’ve never had kids have such large horns so soon.

How was my night last night? Busy lol

Buck/ doe twins for first freshener April Showers who was due 3/10 (so five days early). She popped them out and left me speechless because i thought there was only one small one in there. Turns out there were two. April gave a pint of colostrum last night and a quart this morning so her babies are up going well. They were put into the main bottle pen tonight and we all realized, I’ve never had this many babies before. With April kidding it means there is only one dairy doe left, Stormi.lol

Marley came on her due date and surprised us with absolutely adorable mostly red DOE twins.

Kid count is 5 doelings and 2 bucklings total so far. Not too shabby girls. Great job!

The kids are figuring out their legs. They can’t run any marathons yet but give them a few more days and they won’t be easy to catch. I love watching them at this stage. Everything is a mystery so its all trial and error

Look at these sweet faces 😊 no official names yet but I think that white one MIGHT be Wild Turkey. Don was eating a Turkey sandwhich for lunch when i asked for a status update and he found them in the barn. Turkey fits because SHE is in your lap, in your face, then up your shoulder and looking around at everything. She MUST know what is going on. And she is WILD! 😝

However I want the names to have “V” in there somewhere to stick with the “letter of the year” decreed by ADGA (also helps with remembering birth year 😉) Dam is Wild Rockette Sire is Geminis Scion, Retained sister is Timber so nature themes? Something to think on….
Anyway, they are happy, seem healthy and drinking very well. 10 oz seems to be the sweet spot for feeding them at the moment. I didn’t get body weights on them because while their frames are big, they weight a little bit of nothing. That grey/rust doeling is deeep chested. They are filling out and bucking, kicking and figuring out those legs.

Happy Wednesday!

Welllll it’s one boy and two doelings for Rocky. First was the white, second sundgau and third gold one. She labored unassisted this afternoon between hourly barn checks. Little to no stringing, eating away on her hay and in 45 mins spit out three beautiful babies!! Rocky gave 44 oz of beautiful golden colostrum. Babies have eaten 24oz between the three of them and still don’t look full. The gold one is very deep. Two are sleeping and one is starting meconium poops, so her belly is starting to work.

Thank you Don for being the midwife and making sure faces were cleaned off and airways clear.
