Howdy Ranch Fans, whats The Good Word?
These last few days have been just lovely. This morning the sun hit the snow and the snow was just so, and it lit up with a million tiny sparkles. It will do that on a clear night with a full moon too. Brite enough to read by and the snow sparkling, maybe some coyotes chatting it up or an owl who hooting. That’s the Hallmark card right there…All sarcasm aside, it really has been perfect snow sampler for winters snow offerings. The first round was snow without wind, like a primer coat. It covered everything evenly and stayed cold enough to keep it around. It was a little wet, but it was nice. It even made the hay trailer look attractive. The second round came in with some wind and sub-freezing cold. It built drifts filled in the low spots and formed scalloped textures across the open flats Snow that’s the consistency of shaving cream. The days have been clear and cold the sun steam dries the pavement and concrete but still cold enough to hold snow and its still pretty, pure white and powdery. Squeaky under our boots on the packed path around the fenceline. Yesterday the rising sun hit the upper tree line, illuminating it in the dawns warm light, contrasted with the hillside just below, still in the shade still frosty. Then in a few moments it was over, the light changed and the whole hillside filled with light. This morning it was a glitter factory. Clear and cold, almost no wind, just enough to carry a bit of wood smoke from the fire. Skeeter is beside herself, she really loves the snow. The walk around the fenceline is a constant twenty paces, stop, stoop and throw, twenty paces, stop, stoop and throw. Until she finds something more interesting under the snow, something that requires some follow up. Plowing her nose through the snow. Sometimes she forgets the stick altogether and has to catch up to us. There is always another stick.
