Vanna and a few of her new babies. ❤️

09/21/2026

Broody mommas gonna broody. Even if the spot they choose to broody isn't always the best, safest, or most convenient. 😁

This is Vanna. You may remember her as my rebel broody who was -- rather ambitiously -- sitting on a hidden nest of 26 eggs attempting to hatch them under an old van in the backyard a while back. I reduced her clutch to a slightly more reasonable number and she hatched...God i don't even remember 🤣 she hatched 8? 9? Who knows. ANYWAY

Vanna heard the call of motherhood again and this time chose to create her nest and sit on her clutch on the shelf in my feed shed. A slightly more secure space than under the van but honestly not by much.

But the babies have begun hatching. ❤️ I've spotted 3 so far. I've got her and babies barricaded on the shelf to create as safe of a place as I possibly can for her to get thru hatch and once it's complete I've already got her nursery coop space set up and waiting for momma and babies to move in.

There is something so magical about watching a broody hen do all the momma things. As many times as I've done it, it's still just SO fu***ng wonderful to watch.

Good thing I got a nap today cause I won't be sleeping much tonight lol!!

Here we go again. Lilly Bean is laying egg #2. 😆

Meet Lily Bean, this week's Flock Star!

My sweet little serama hen made history yesterday she became my first serama to lay an egg!! Unfortunately for me, she chose the single most inaccessible spot imaginable to lay that egg - Im very thankful there's no video of me crawling into that corner to retrieve it 🤣 Then she belted out her egg song loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear, our proud little diva letting everyone know!! ❤️

Tiny bird, big personality. And yall KNOW I'll be hatching some Serama babies ASAP now!!

Looking for porcelain and mille fleur duccles - anyone in the panhandle area of Florida breed those? I'm looking for hatching eggs, day old chick's, or older. I've got one of each and I am absolutely SMITTEN. Sweetest, cutest, just completely delightful little babies and I want.... no....I NEED 😁 more of them!!
Pic of my sweet porcelain duccle girl, Joy Belle, being my emotional support work chicken yesterday 🤣 ❤️ 😍 I'm in Panama City but am willing to travel a bit to pick up!!

Another coop built - this, and the 10x20 run, will be a temporary second grow out pen and once all those younger chick's are moved to their permanent adult housing, this will become my brahma pen and coop.

Not quite sure how that happens..... 🤣
