Hawkeye Farm

Hawkeye Farm Welcome to Hawkeye Farm, and thank you for your interest in the herd! Hawkeye Farm started out as a mere 4H project in 2013 when I purchased my first two does.

From that point on my love for the breed and industry was ignited. Although the herd is "young" when compared to others, they've progressed by leaps and bounds since 2013. They have not only proven their worth in the show ring, but also in the milk room. Here at Hawkeye Farm a specific emphasis is put on producing and reproducing Nubians that are "built to last". Areas of focus are levelness of to

p-line, smoothness of blending, and strength of feet and legs. It is important that a doe not only looks "pretty" but will stand her own in the milk room. Although the herd is not on official milk test, their production is closely monitored through barn records. All senior does that reside in the herd are G6S tested along with Caesin, and the whole herd is routinely tested for CAE. All the kids born here at Hawkeye Farm are raised on a CAE prevention program and are hand bottle fed, which helps with their socialization. At Hawkeye Farm we not only have the desire to raise high quality animals, but most importantly healthy and happy animals. Hawkeye Farm is very much a family business. I, Jamy Randol am the herd owner and manager, but am furthering my education out of state at Kansas State University. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of my family, specifically my parents who oversee the day to day operations for me while I’m away. It is for this very reason that the senior doe numbers will always be on the ‘smaller’ side, thus many high quality animals that I’d gladly retain in the herd will be for sale. Here at Hawkeye Farm the goats are an integral part of our family, we look forward to welcoming them into yours!

Even though we are defintiely feeling the recent losses around the farm, you can't help but smile when a doe walks into the barn for milking looking like this at only 11 hours full. Love her mammary so much that only a live video could even begin to do her justice!! The icing on the cake though... she's the littermate sister to Prim whom we just recently lost.

Hawkeye Farm Rue is the testatment to "give them time". You may recall that last year she dealt with toxoplasmosis and never came into milk, but all the "parts" were there. Seeing her this year compounded with everything else, I am oh so glad I followed my gut and retained her in the herd! I'm excited to get her buck/does DNA back to confirm whether their sire is Acorn-Acres Storm Warning (AI) OR Hawkeye Farm Buckwheat.

Kidding season has officially started here... and as many know its the time of changes and new beginnings

I wanted to take the time to thank everyone that reached out these past couple weeks after seeing an absence of our usual Friday posts, which is definitely out of the norm here! So I truly appreciate you all from the bottom of my heart.

As you all know I strive to make it a point to be transparent as possible when it comes to things around the farm, as I personally feel it is very important. Plainly speaking this past year has been an extremely hard one. Emotionally physically you name it. From encountering unexpected & unexplained mastitis issues last season, to my heart goat Clover aborting ,to nonetheless several sudden deaths in the herd including our late senior hrdsire *B Lakeshore Ace Anticipation & most recently my favorite 3 year old Hawkeye Farm Primrose. It just truly feels like we can't catch a break. So yes farm life does go on, but it was important for me to finally give myself the chance to breathe and recalibrate so that way we can come back better than ever. And for those who know me on a personal level know this is huge as I am a chronic workaholic and over thinker 😂

So today I am appreciating the little blessings of every day life including these 2 buck kids Prim left me with, one of which will likely be hanging around to fill the void his dam has left!

Also due to me not being able to respond to those who participated in the donation! Entries are now open until April 1st!

Today for we are introducing you all to our very exciting junior buck that will have kids this year out of 2 (potentially 3) does this season. He is;

Hawkeye Farm Buckwheat
Dam: Hawkeye Farm PBF Clover 2*M (pending)
Sire: State Line Kings Corner

Admittedly last season I had absolutely no intention of retaining any buck kids, as I had already assembled quite the lineup of senior herd sires & had plans to keep one this year (2023)... Then this guy & his littermate sister were born. With me being out of state, unfortunately I have to make business decisions sometimes without seeing the kids in person -- so I was already working on placing this guy in a home when my mom said "Jamy... I think you need to hold off & come see this one for yourself". In 10 years, my mom has never once said that about a buck kid so you bet I listened!

First time I saw him, him & his sister literally were towering not only over their tubs, but over nearly all the March kids that were a full month older then them! Which completely caught me off guard as I am known more for my moderate framed sized animals... but not only were they massive, they were sharp, angular, looooooong & oh so smooth. Not to mention this boy is the spitting image of *my color*. I just Knew he had to stick around & boy am I glad I did ( oh and btw the side profile shot he was less then 2 months old.... and for perspective I am 5'10")!

Clover his dam had one heck of a year. She's now one leg shy of earning her CH & even with traveling around all summer, she had a completed lactation of 3163lbs in 280 days. Needless to say she's earned the nickname of "my little holstein". Clover unfortunately aborted her kids this season, definitely making this buck, and his offspring this season that much more special.

All the does he was bred to will produce kids line bred on Acorn-Acres Pretty Boy Floyd (clovers sire), who has definitely earned the title of a production/rear udder buck!

Introducing our last doe to freshen this season... and while she may not have the flashiest of show careers yet, this is truly a special one & I am thankful to have welcomed her back into the herd. She is;

Hawkeye Farm Ivy
Dam: Hawkeye Farm Fern 1*M (pending)
Sire: *B Lakeshore Ace Anticipation

Ivy is the result of a pairing I made 3x in hopes of a doe. Fern was kind enough to bless me with triplet bucks.... twice. It is a well known fact that Fern is more than stingy with doe kids, but she made them worth the wait! Clover, Ivy's maternal sister just completed her lactation and officially joined the 3000+lb club. If Ivy has just a fraction of that "will to milk" I will be more then tickled pink.

Ivy is officially Ferns last doe kid we will ever have due to putting Fern officially into the retirement pen to join her dam, our original brood doe, Daisy. Luckily for me though, Ivy is 100% the carbon copy of her dam at this age & I'm excited to see her age as beautifully as her dam.

Due: March 14th 2023
Bred to: Lakeshore Man In the Mirror

Up next on is a doe that likes to make her presence known - whether in the show ring or the barn, you definitely know she's there! She is;

Hawkeye Farm Pinot Noir (dry leg)
Dam: Hawkeye Farm Fine As Wine
Sire: CH (pending) Lakeshore Status Justified

Pinot's dam is a doe that I admired for her overall frame size and correctness. She just oozed breed character. The only way I was comfortable moving her was knowing that she gave me an even prettier daughter to keep for myself. As Pinot has matured my excitement has grown substantially. Not only is she the largest framed of the yearlings, but she is already showing beautiful angularity & depth with width overall for daysssss. I can't wait to see her kids out of Belmont -- which will be a super fun line breeding on SGCH ++*B Lakehsore-farms Star Status (EX91 EEE) & SG Kastdemur’s At Your Service !

Due: March 26th
Bred to: *B Lakeshore Belmont Stakes

My apologies for missing our scheduled post from last Friday, we were busy celebrating my brothers wedding! And boy is she a good one, because the first thing she asks at restaurants is " Do you have any goat cheese?"

Up next on is a doe who has simply checked all the boxes for me in terms of GA... which comes as no surprise knowing who her dam-line is. She is;

Hawkeye Farm Crime of Passion (dry leg)
Dam: Hawkeye Farm EST Total Mayhem
Sire: *B Lakeshore Ace Anticipation

Passion has always been a standout from last years kid group. She's always had beautiful upstandingness and smoothness of blending, and her angles cut oh so beautifully. She's just as pretty on the move, just maybe not so much in the show ring when she decides the collar is the death of her... & every corner she needs to alligator roll. Nevertheless though even with all her dramatics at the first show out she picked up 2 reserve champions in the first rings (due to judges not being able to watch/handle her), but we finally came to an understanding in the last ring where she handily got her dry leg. Guess thats what I get when I miss my college graduation to go to a goat show 🙃 This is a doe I personally 100% have my eye on!

Due: April 13th

Up next on our dry yearling edition, soon to be 2 year old 1st fresheners of is;

Hawkeye Farm Beautiful Day
Sire: CH (pending) Lakeshore Status Justified
Dam: Hawkeye Farm Mama Tried 2*M (pending)

May as well dress the elephant in the room. Yes this girl is definitely round around the edges right now and is carrying lots of excess conditioning. For those that have been around for the past several years, then you probably remember me mentioning that all my Justice daughters are absolute tanks as dry yearlings that don't know how to turn down a free meal. And to top it off Beauty also had a freak accident where she strained her hip (likely resulting from a slip) so she unfortunately stayed off the show string this year.

Justice daughters have won over my heart.... I have 4 coming 3 year olds out of him 🤪... and I have no doubt that Beauty will easily milk off all the excess conditioning and come out with a bang, just like everyone else has! They are worth the wait!!

Beauty has been bred to *B Lakeshore Belmont Stakes which is a super fun line breeding on At Your Service AND Star Status!!

Starting off dry yearling edition we have a big, powerful, old school girl that brings out back to our root genetics. She is;

Hawkeye Farm Soybean (dry leg)
Dam: Hawkeye Farm PBF Alfalfa
Sire: Stevens Creek Fancy Pants

Although in recent years the "core genetics" I use have shifted some, this doe is a reminder as to why I fell in love with the "originals" to begin with. Her dam Alfalfa was always one of my favorites, but having her littermate sister Clover (who'm was recently featured), cuts had to be made. What made moving her dam easier, was this doe kid of hers... Although not the mainstream decision when it comes to genetics, Soybean is everything I could've ever hoped for. She's not only much larger, but also so much more structurally correct and sounder on her rear legs. My favorite improvement though is her head. She has such a powerful set to her jaw and phenomenal width between her eyes. It leaves me little doubt that she's sure to turn into a major powerhouse 2 year old.

Soybean is bred to Hawkeye Farm Buckwheat - which will yield a line breeding that truly will take the resulting offsprings back to "our roots". Expecting beautiful rear udders and GA from this pairing!

While we wrapped up senior doe edition, before we transition into the dry yearlings and bucks, I would like to take a minute to humbly brag on this "little doe" that I was fortunate enough to bring into the herd this summer.

As I said on the page before, Blissberry Party In the USA (Miley) is a doe who is no stranger to the spotlight, being that she was 2021 Reserve Junior National Champion. I knew she was a special doe and was 100% going to be one to watch... what I wasn't expecting though is that with being a Yearling 1st freshener, & moving from Minnesota to Iowa during lactation, was that she was going to end up on the ELITE list?!

This doe is just getting started folks! And to top it all off her doe kid from this year was 4th place junior kid at Nationals. Can't wait to see her truly blossom & get her appraised in the future.

Once again, thank you so much to BlissBerry Dairy Goats for allowing Miley & OMG (who was in the 90th percentile as a yearling) to call Hawkeye Farm home.

To wrap up our Senior doe edition.... we have one of my all time favorite does & now one of my all time bucket list AI breedings ✨Confirmed✨ She is;

Hawkeye Farm PBF Clover 2*M (pending)
Dam: Hawkeye Farm Fern 1*M (pending)
Sire: Acorn-Acres Pretty Boy Floyd

Bred to:
GCH Kastdemur's Free And Easy FS91 EEE
Dam: Kastdemur's Breeze FS92 EEEE
Sire: Kastdemur's Full Disclosure FS91 EEE

Clover is a doe that needs little introduction, especially for those who we have had the fortune to show with. She has easily earned the nickname "Holstein" due to her sheer milking capabilities & her gorgeous rear udder. She's a doe that no matter what, she is uddered up at 12 hours on the dot. Outside of production there is so many things I appreciate about her. She may not be as smooth in GA as some of the others residing in the herd, but as soon as you get your hands on her you'll get butterflies. From the sheer openness of rib & and the amount of "sweep" to the rib
along with the pliability of skin.... Needless to say she's "my girl" and she knows it.

I am very excited to say that in the year of crappy AI conception rates, the one that did take was this one. Talk about a dream come true! (Thank you so much to the McDaniel Family for making this dream even a possibility).

Free and Easy is one of the first Nubian bucks I fell in love with when I first got into dairy goats. The sheer amount of structural style and class that he himself had, & that he passed along to his daughters... I knew that one day I had to incorporate his genetics into the herd & I couldn't imagine a better pairing then this one!

Hmmmmm it's Black Friday, so may as well post one of my many black goats for this right?

Today we are featuring a doe that needs no introduction, she is;

Blissberry Party In the USA 5*M (pending): 2021 ADGA Reserve Junior National Champion
Dam: SGCH Blissberry After Party 4*M
Sire: GCH +*B Lakeshore-Farms HitTheJackpot EX90

Miley is a doe that definitely likes to be the center of attention. At all times. She demands all the scratchies and cookies that anyone could offer though. BUT it has to be on her own time. That is most certainly something I definitely figured out when I went to AI her this season. She won the award for the best high kick, so the decision was made to put her in with Belmont as a 2nd resort.

Miley as a yearling is already competing for the title of largest doe in the herd. *Don't tell Mayhem* but I have no doubt that in a year she will easily have the title. Not only is she tall, but she is long, angular and proportional. Even though she's super immature (which is exactly how I like my yearlings!) I can't wait to see what another freshening will do.

She is bred to: *B Lakeshore Belmont Stakes
