Menefee Farms focuses on producing purebred seedstock and showpigs. Our main emphasis is registered Hampshire and Poland China with a few Herefords and Crossbreds. In addition to the purebred/showpig operation we also operate a farrow to finish commercial swine operation, run cow-calf pairs and row crop about 500 acres. If you are ever in eastern Kansas feel free to stop by, we are conveniently located two miles off of 69 HWY about 10 miles south of Louisburg.

The hamps are littermates to Kennedi Hettinger's Champion FFA Gilt at the Missouri State Fair. This litter was deep and had a great run this summer and fall.

We love this show because it brings together alot of the well established hog breeders in Kansas. A couple decades ago we would all gather in Salina for the Kansas Purebred Swine Breeders Association show and sale...the KSF Open Show brings back a lot of those memories.

Missouri State Fair
Champion Hampshire Gilt- FFA Show

Shown By: Kennedi Hettinger
Sired By: New Era

I've seen this gilt a few times over the summer and always thought she was built right. A couple weeks ago Kennedi's dad sent me a video and I knew we needed to buy her back.

She's home and Mak has already named her "Alice" after President Teddy Roosevelt's daughter. Thank you to the Hettingers for asking our family to join you at the backdrop.

Only continue reading if you enjoy genetics or need help falling asleep tonight!

The genetics on this one are special to us. In June of 2011, at the World Pork Expo, we bought a daughter of Gold Standard, the Hines girls had named "Pickles". She was shown by Cailyn Hines-Brockway and bred by Sharretts. Gold Standard was the world record setting Hampshire boar that Lean Value bought. At the time he was overpriced and thus underutilized. We found his true power to be through the females he laid in. Gold Standard's dam was "PLG Alice" and Pickles dam was "Miss Cicada." Pickles combined two of the dominant hampshire sow lines and having worked for Doc Hines at PLG I knew those sows could lay down and have pigs on their own. We've built most of our sow herd around Pickles genetics and have been blessed for quite a few to find the backdrop.

LANE AGRICULTURAL FAIR

The 134th edition of the Lane Fair was a good one to our family and one of the largest swine shows we've seen there in years.

The Grand Overall and Reserve Overall are both out of a bred gilt we purchased from 4K Farms (Kirk Swanson) last fall. Those in the business know the impact he's had for decades on our industry.
