Three days of September rain have given way to a sunny, springlike October here in Northern CA. Instead of colorful fall leaves, the garden is exploding with springlike blooms. While I'm sure the 10 degrees above average temps have not been good for global warming & the California megadrought, they have provided a great opportunity to soak in the beauty around us and get ALOT of work done in preparation for winter and next year's harvest.
Tree work round #5 has been completed to remove dead & dying trees after the Campfire. This brings the current tally of 100+ ft trees killed by PGE on my property to approximately 80. The property looks better & is definitely safer, but I had a very hard time watching 4 more mighty oaks be turned into wood chips & firewood. On a positive note, getting this work done allowed us to move the goat pen to its permanent location and get it winterized.
The garden is shifting from summer to winter. Seeds are being collected, a small tree nursery started, summer crops getting harvested and winter ones planted. Since this is our first year of farm life, there is lots of learning & experimenting (insert lots of dirt, sweat & f-bombs) going on. So I'm taking notes and making plans for spring, but more than that I'm basking in gratitude and hope 🙏❤️🤞❤️
