A few of our duck ambassadors are getting ready to go to Sunshine Day at the Bourbon County Fair!

First stop: Sadler Vet And Embryo Services PLLC for a health certificate.

This evening they will all get baths and pedicures.

Tomorrow off to the fairgrounds to represent their breeds and spread a little sunshine as they make new friends.

Sunshine Day is one of our favorite days of the year! Individuals with disabilities including sensory issues and their families are invited to enjoy a day at the fair. The bright lights are turned off, the noise is reduced and other accommodations are made to make the fair accessible for everyone.

There is a special Sunshine goat class show, and this year there will be ducks to interact with! We are excited for the goat show tonight and Sunshine Day tomorrow!

Roots and Branches Farm had a special delivery! Our home is full of sweet cheeps, splashes of water, and lots of cuddles.

Every single hatch brings a unique mix of intense excitement, anxiety, and ultimate hope. This hatch was certainly no exception, but the reward of seeing these rare babies make their way into the world makes every single suspenseful moment in lockdown completely worth it.

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome our newest arrivals: Aylesbury, Golden Cascade, and Miniature Golden Cascade ducklings!

Because these breeds are so rare, each successful hatch is a huge victory for conservation. They aren't just adorable new faces on the farm—they represent real hope for preserving these incredible breeds for the future.

Tomorrow is Flag Day, and soon it will be the 4th of July. 🇺🇸✨

This is how you grow baby lambs, right? 🐑 Our garden is full of little wool poofs!

Actually, we’re growing strawberries! 🍓 The new shoots are getting stronger every day, but with temps threatening to dip below freezing tonight, they needed a little protection.

Enter: sheep's wool. It works as a fantastic natural mulch and insulation. Each little plant got its own warm blanket, thanks to our sheep. 🐑

On April 29th of each year, we celebrate the anniversary of getting our first ducks—our Duckiversary.

12 years ago, these cute little fluff balls arrived at the post office. When we opened the box, baby Emma excitedly proclaimed, “Duck! Duck! Duck!”

We started with just 3 breeds and had no idea the impact they would have on our family!

Since then, our ducks have moved with us 5 times—including 2 cross-country moves. Our children have grown up alongside them… and our flock has grown too! Over the years, we’ve had 15 different breeds.

Each night, Adam does an inventory making sure all of the ducks are accounted for.

Tonight, in honor of our 12-year Duckiversary, we did an official count by breed and total…

117 ducks.

Here is to many more years to come with ducks!

It's Kentucky Derby week! Roots and Branches Farm is celebrating with a special edition of Little Bears!

Little Bears love adventure—and this is their very first Derby! 🐎🌹

To show them a little of what's to come, we took the bears on an adventure to downtown Paris, KY.

First stop: Secretariat Park. History enveloped them as they gazed at the bronze statue and mural of Secretariat. Their little hearts were already pumping!

Next: Quillin Leather & Tack. The smell of rich leather filled the air. Horse harnesses, belts, and beautiful purses filled the store. The friendly faces made the Little Bears feel welcomed and right at home! Little Rose Bear even got to sit on a saddle! She could almost taste the excitement of "Running for the Roses." They highly recommend Quillin!

The Final Stop: The Mill Yard. After a busy day, the bears settled into their favorite hangout. They love witnessing new sandwiches being created, browsing local makers’ treasures, and feeling that true spirit of community.
