This year, we'll have more pines available than ever before at the nursery!

Evergreens act as some special species in the landscape - providing valuable wildlife cover and food, windbreaks, erosion control, and privacy screening. In Kentucky, pines provide nesting space and shelter for birds like Eastern Bluebirds, Carolina Chickadees, Tufted Titmice, White-breasted Nuthatches, Carolina Wrens, woodpeckers, and even Pine Warblers and Yellow-throated Warblers 😎

Elderberry is alchemizing this time of year. Soft pillows of white flowers in the spring have turned into small berries starting to form. These deep purple berries will ripen in early fall and are treasured for elderberry syrup (by humans) and nutrition and sustenance (for birds including Cedar Waxwings, American Robins, Cardinals, and Bluebirds)

This fast-growing native thrives in full sun but happily tolerates some shade. Elderberry loves water and spreads by their roots which form gorgeous groves.

Hundreds of trees planted on the farm each year. One protection system we trust.

We've tested many tree tubes over the years, and Plantra is our favorite, for the planting goals we have (shade for livestock, silvopasture, deer protection, large scale planting). The 6-foot design protects young trees above the deer browse line, creates a greenhouse effect for faster growth, and allows natural movement that helps trees build strong trunks. And the tubes can be electrified for large-scale silvopasture plantings across fields. Cattle can graze right up to and between the trees, minimizing or totally removing the need to weedeat.
