So you want to have a homestead? Do It.
Welcome to your new addiction⊠along with your new time consumer, âhigher level of educationâ with never ending research, messy house, chaotic yard full of never ending projects, feral children, mud covered floors, animals that just seem to appear out of thin air, messy kitchen⊠the list is honestly never ending.
Now itâs not all bad; itâs also your new found peace and joy, the reminder of loving the outdoors, constantly having wonderful new smells in the kitchen, adventures, the pride you feel after finishing a new project, the sweet sweet sound of the ping when your mason jar seals, I can keep going on the good too.
Despite what people say I honestly enjoy what I have created with my little family. We make messes in the kitchen that tend to end in something yummy, I feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment when I bring in the vegetables from the garden, I smile like a little kid when I look around the yard and see my kids soaking wet from the water hose or covered in dirt head to toe making memories similar to my own, giggle when I see the look on my husbands face as I describe my chaotic vision for a new pen for more animals, and I almost die laughing when I see someone give me âthe lookâ when I mention the new animals we have brought home.
What no one prepared me for was the memories, the endless possibilities and the fact I would have to work to get to this point.
The best advice I can give you is not to let someone tell you that you canât. Donât let someone else tell you that the chaos of homesteading isnât worth it, that the time you put into it is useless. Even if you donât know what youâre doing in the beginning, youâll learn as you go, I promise.
Wecome to the homestead life, I promise youâll love it.
Oh, one more piece of advice;
Those $300 pair of boots that you think you âabsolutely needâ that are super cute and girly and will just look absolutely cute while youâre working, honey put them down. I can tell you first hand, they are gonna be pretty for maybe a day and then youâll be more upset that they are covered in mud, pig or chicken p**p, and youâre feet hurt and now you have blisters because they are so tight on your toes. Please look for functional over fashionable đ
