WVU Parkersburg’s Agribusiness Entrepreneurship class utilized a “white elephant” style business selection process this semester. Students were able to keep, steal, partner, and trade businesses during the selection process early in the semester.

Businesses included a hazelnut & pecan operation, snail farm, insect farm, composting operation, flower farm, & agritourism operation these students knocked it out of the park.

This challenged agriculture students to look into niche businesses and pushed students to move past their traditional thoughts of production agriculture.

Professor Riggs said “I am very proud of the work these students did. Many thought I was joking - even two weeks in, but those same students showed up with great presentations. I also heard one student is now going to start raising insects commercially!”

The 2nd annual Riverhawk Farm Cattle & Equipment Sale has concluded… WOW! What a great day for agriculture in the Mid-Ohio Valley. With terrific support from the community, we had over $55,000 in sales & donations.

Thank you to all those who supported and all those who consigned! Special thanks to Rocky Peck, Auctioneer, owner of Rocky Peck Sales & Marketing, Wood County Beef Cattle Improvement Association for their continued efforts and support through our educational partnership, & Farm to Fork Meat Processing LLC, y’all are rockstars!
