Dear Umbel Nursery Customers,

We have decided to downsize our greenhouse and nursery operations to adapt to the many changes that have occurred over the last couple of years and to successfully navigate new business policies at the state and federal levels.

It's immensely important to us to express our sincere gratitude to each of you who have supported Umbel Nursery over the years. You have made us feel so welcome and we are so grateful to be a part of this community, and we are not going anywhere. However, our day-to-day offerings and functions are shifting.

Here is what the shift will look like:

The nursery and farm will no longer be open to the public for retail sales. However, we will still be hosting limited-attendance classes and pre-registered events seasonally. These will be announced in advance through social media and via our website.

The plant nursery will pivot toward serving larger local organic food growers, medicinal herbs, and food-based charities. We are continuing to grow medicinal herbs and cut flowers in our gardens in order to offer a wider range of herb starts, dried herbs, and products via our website and local markets.

We will also continue to offer services in:

• Landscape consulting

• Small-scale residential landscape design

• Commercial wholesale cut flowers

• Retail cut flowers (you can still buy direct from us for DIY events)

• Custom wedding flowers (limited availability)

We have prayed intently and debated fervently, but are confident that this is the best path forward for our family, nursery, and farm at this time.

do we sell cut flowers? Yes! do we sell them at the greenhouse? Nope. It’s just too hot for cut flowers to stay nice. If you’ve ever been to a grocery or a florist shop to buy a bouquet, there’s a reason the flowers are in refrigerated cases ☺️ we do cut to order but only in the early morning or evenings (this is best practice for long vase life) so please let us know you would like to come pick some up! You can call or text with your date of pickup and we will cut to order 💚

found these massive alliums blooming in the yard, and quickly discovered the value of a flower frog! a frog is a small metal (or glass) flower arranging tool. you place it in the bottom of your vase and stick your stems into it. you can achieve more interesting angles and also coax some large stems into standing upright. swipe to see the difference in my arrangement— first photo is with a frog, second is without. final photo is my hand holding the flowers for scale.
