Are you interested in growing your own garlic? Here’s a helpful tip from Dana, our farm gardener….
Greetings, Some tips for growing garlic.
1. I know it sounds logical, but you can't plant the whole head. You must break it down into the cloves and plant those. The pointy side of the clove is up towards the surface. Plant about a finger deep.
2. I plant my garlic about the 3rd week of October. So the time to harvest is easily remembered. It's ready to harvest the week of July 4th.
3. When harvesting, shake of some dirt.... but don't rub it off. Hang in a warm dry place after harvest with some ventilation. A garage is best. Let it dry for about 3 weeks. Trim off roots and stalk.... leaving about an inch of stalk for storage. Will keep for a few months. Or save it for seed the next year. Enjoy, Dana
