Things here are picking up. Mama and George have blessed us with 6 babies. A week old friday and they are doing great. Baby chicks are 3 wks old and have been integrated to grass after teaching Keely they are protected by hot wire. Hoping she has learned her lesson after the 2nd shock. Mcgee knows to stay away thank goodness.
As far as the garden goes...we had a late start, but things are starting to bloom. Flowers and herbs are doing great and even though we had a late frost then all the rain strawberries have given us a few quarts so far. Speaking of frost the fruit trees are growing leaps and bounds, but we will not have fruit this year from peaches and cherries. The elderberry bushes will give us more than enough. I will focus on herbs and tinctures this year.

Our Narragansett poults have arrived just in time as our BYM chicks started hatching on Monday. Poults hatched Tuesday. What a difference in size for these big birds!

Well I have seen so many already starting gardens, setting eggs, and getting spring started on your homesteads. I thought it was about time I stop procrastinating. The Mr will be starting on the big garden tomorrow. Today he fenced it off so the pup knows it's a no digging zone. May we all be blessed with a bounty this year!!

Red Buds and peaches are blooming!! High 60's tomorrow dropping into the low 20's . What are you all doing to protect the possibility of fruit??

What a difference a month makes. From being covered in snow to these wonderful spring temperatures this past week.
We were able to get a jump start on the task of staining the outbuildings. What a huge difference!!

Now understand I am not delusional. I know this is TN and we could have snow next week because it is February, but I'll take what I can get. 😂

How are y'all fairing in coping with the winter??

South East Tennessee is getting a little snow storm. No total numbers here yet, but I know we've exceeded 10" a while ago.
We are on a one lane dead end holler road so the county nor township touches our road. My wonderful husband and neighbor spent the morning shoveling our end of the road.Bless these boys!! Stay safe and warm y'all!!

I enjoy the down time of the few winter months we have, but I don't like the cold. Does anyone, really?

I know the hatching, breeding, planting season is right around the corner...this is exciting to me. Not so much my other half! 😂 The extra coops, extra feedings, and extra chores.

Then comes our no time for anything else season. From April until Aug. we are doing what I enjoy. This means we raise 3/4 of our own food. Meat and Veggies!!
Bring on 2026 growing season!
