MEET THE WINEMAKER
To winemaker Jason Joyce, the allure of crafting wine is in its ability to be both art and science, with room for spontaneity, exploration, and freedom of expression. Feeling stifled by the restrictions of his early scientific career, Jason was captivated by the process of making wine as a way to blend deeper human experience into his everyday life. Starting at Calcareous as a harvest cellar hand under Australian winemaker Daniel Shaw, with council from Daniel’s father, winemaker Philip Shaw, Jason learned to craft small batch, high-quality wine, ultimately advancing to become head winemaker at Calcareous Vineyard in 2010. “This is a project I passionately believe in. The estate vineyard is the highest quality and represents a unique fusion of soil and climate. I am given complete freedom in the cellar to bring the fruit from vine to glass in whatever manner produces the best possible expression of our place.”

As harvest comes into full swing, we're shining a spotlight on the people who make it possible at Calcareous.

Meet Luis, our Vineyard Manager. Luis joined the Calcareous team in 2011 and stepped into his current role in 2021.

A true steward of the land, Luis oversees the care of our estate vineyards year-round, helping ensure exceptional fruit from vine to harvest. His dedication, knowledge, and leadership are integral to everything we do.

The journey to bottle begins in the vineyard and Luis and his crew are at the heart of that journey. Cheers to them!

Lily Blanc is our featured wine of the month and the perfect choice for summertime sipping!

Appears a beautiful pale white gold color while exuding rich aromas of honeydew melon and wet gravel. The Roussanne shows immediately upfront with pleasing richness. The Grenache Blanc and Picpoul Blanc balance this with ample bright acidity bringing focus to white peach and slight tropical character. A food pairing dream, as this Lily works with a wide range of flavors and textures, from summer salads, to fish and lamb and even spicy Thai.

A note from Dana on the origin of the name Très Violet

I distinctly remember the day that we came up with the name Très Violet. My dad and I and a few friends were standing in the vineyard. We were all so excited about the red Rhône varietals that had just been planted and wanted this blend to be feminine, elegant, and vibrant. My baby daughter instantly came to my mind. Why not celebrate her with this wine that has now become our most acclaimed blends. Très Violet means very violet in French and many also extend the Très to represent the three varietals— Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Frannie is now 24 years old and working for Calcareous as our Brand Coordinator. To this day she exemplifies everything that this wine is. I am beyond proud of her and grateful for Très Violet.
