This Isn’t the “Facility” You’re Imagining

I’ve asked a whole bunch of people what comes to mind when they hear the words “production facility.” They say:
Big equipment.
Loud machines.
Harsh smells.
Dirty or dusty
Heavy lifting.
Long, exhausting days.
A place you have to work… not a place you want to be.

That’s not what a vermicompost operation looks like. Not even close.
A well-designed vermicompost production facility is quiet, orderly, and actually, kind of peaceful.

When visitors walked in my operation, the most common response was “definitely not what I expected!”

We work with natural processes, living ecosystems. Worms quietly working away…material transforming right in front of you.

There’s a rhythm to it. Feed, water, monitor, harvest. No work for a couple of days and start again.

No chãos, no grinding,. There’s nothing industrial about it.

And when it’s set up correctly, it can easily be a part time venture.

This "industrial mindset" is one of the biggest misconceptions I see…and I’d like to change your mindset too. Inside the Vermicomposters Business Accelerator, I walk through exactly how to design a “Production Facility” like this.

If you’ve ever been curious about this industry—but pictured something very different—this might change that.

I'll put the link to the "crash course in vermicomposting" in the comments. See you there? It happens next week.

Worm Energy – it’s really a thing!

There’s Something About Being in a Worm Barn That’s Hard to Explain

This may sound strange… but I’m going to say it anyway.

There is something about being in a worm barn that is centering. Not relaxing in the way people think. Not “take a break” relaxing.
Something way deeper. I remember the first time I felt it. It was years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. I was on overwhelm, really stressed. I was questioning if I would ever figure out how to make this business hum.

I went into the barn to feed the worms. Nothing special. Just the next thing on the schedule. I loved feeding the worms.

When I finished, I sat down on a little stool. It was near dusk… quiet… still. And within minutes—less than 15—I felt different. My shoulders had relaxed, my breathing was calm. The stress that had been sitting on me all day… was gone. Not reduced. GONE.

My mind felt clear again. I remember thinking “What just happened?” At the time, I didn’t have words for it. Now, I understand a lot more.

There’s real science behind this!
• Exposure to natural environments has been shown to lower stress, improve mood, and even change brain activity
• Gardening and working with soil can act as a “full-body reset” for the nervous system
• Certain soil microbes have been shown to influence serotonin and reduce inflammation linked to depression
• Even short interactions with nature can improve emotional regulation and mental clarity

So maybe it wasn’t just a moment. Maybe it was the environment. Or maybe…it was being connected to a living system that’s doing exactly what it was designed to do. No noise, no pressure. It felt like some sort of rhythm. It’s hard to explain.

I ended up naming it “worm energy.” And that experience stuck with me. Sitting there on that little stool, I realized something else too - this business isn’t just about producing vermicompost. It’s about creating a space you actually want to be in. That’s a very different kind of “facility.”

I walked out of that barn with a completely different state of mind—clear, energized, and ready again. And from that point on… things started to click. Ever since that day, if I got stressed, Jac knew exactly where to find me. Good thing that didn’t happen too often. ☺️

Inside the Vermicomposters Business Accelerator, we talk about how to build that kind of system—one that works with nature, not against it.

A business that produces something valuable…and gives something back to you at the same time.
