🌱 Planting Update

We wrapped up planting on May 15th and we’re grateful to have it behind us.

This spring threw a lot at everyone. We caught an early window, got wet for a stretch, and had to make every day count when the weather cooperated. We also ended up replanting a good amount of soybeans that took frost damage, something we haven’t had to do in a very long time. Most years the soybeans are tough enough to pull through, but this frost had other plans. First time we’ve replanted from frost in recent memory.

We are incredibly grateful for our team. These guys put in long hours and hard days to get this crop in the ground, and behind every one of them is a family that made sacrifices too. We don’t take that lightly. To the families of our crew: thank you.

Now we’re keeping the momentum going. Once the ground dries and is fit, we’ll be finishing up side dressing corn to get it the nitrogen it needs, with a lot of spraying ahead as well with hay season starting when we get a 3 to 5 day window with no rain.

A quick agronomic note for those who like to follow along: after a heavy rain event like we’ve had, one of the things we watch closely is how long any standing water sits on the field. Both corn and soybeans can typically survive 24 to 48 hours submerged, depending on temperatures. Cooler weather buys a little more time. Much beyond that, the oxygen in the soil gets depleted and plants start to die. The other thing we watch is mud coating the leaves after floodwaters recede. If a rain doesn’t come to wash the silt off, it can block photosynthesis and cause damage even after the water is gone. Today we’re out scouting to check on any drowned out spots. We’re optimistic most of the water will move off in time, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on it.

Farming keeps you humble. You plan, you push, you grind, and then you watch and wait. Grateful for the team, grateful for the season, and looking forward to what’s ahead. 🌱

🌱 Planting Update

We’re roughly 75% done with corn and 90% finished with soybeans.

April gave us a great window, and our crew made the most of it. The last several days of rain have slowed us down, but also gave us time to catch up on shop work, get some rest, and spend time with family and friends.

We did see some cold nights and frost this weekend, so we’ll be out scouting soybeans and evaluating any damage this week. We’re hopeful most will pull through.

Farming always keeps you humble—there’s only so much you can control.

It’s a good reminder that we do the work, but the outcome is in God’s hands.

Grateful for our hardworking team and the growing season ahead.
As soon as the weather gives us another window, we’ll be back at it to finish planting.

Harvest Update!
We’re wrapping up soybeans and moving into corn harvest. The dry fall has made for a smooth harvest good running conditions and able to work everyday.

This August went down as the driest on record in Ohio, and it definitely left its mark on the crops. Yields took a bit of a hit, but the soybeans held up better than expected considering how tough the weather was.

The guys have been sending me photos throughout harvest, they make great farmers, but they’re turning into pretty good photographers too!

We had the privilege of joining and presenting at the very first 4th Grade Ag Day at the Hartford Fairgrounds, hosted by the Licking County Farm Bureau. Four different school districts came together and more than 540 students!

We shared about drones in modern agriculture, answered a ton of great questions, and even got the kids involved with some hands-on drone, flying, and racing. The excitement and curiosity they brought made it a blast!

A huge thank you to the Licking County Farm Bureau for inviting us to be part of such a special event. And a shout-out to Garrett Thomas and for helping with the presentation!
