Breeding season has officially begun at the farm!! So let the rodeo or should I say circus begin! I put our first Doe, Veteran’s Red Blondie in with L.A.M.E. Acres Flash this morning. When a Doe goes into heat and I am ready to have her bred, then I will separate the Buck I am wanting to breed her with. That can be alittle tricky when there are 3 other large bucks wanting to get into the pen to breed as well😅 But once I have the buck in the pen I will bring the Doe to him and I will wait to watch him breed her 3 times and then I pull her out of the pen and she goes back to her own pen. So this video was taken right
after I saw him get her the first time. If you watch to the end you’ll see him get her the 2nd time and then after that he got her once more and that was it, I got her out of the
pen and back with the other Does.

I think it’s time to talk about goat’s milk again. Those who own dairy goats I’m sure will relate…

The amount of times someone tells me how they can’t stand goat’s milk because they tried it once when they were a kid and it was terrible. Or they simply say I don’t think I could drink it, even though they’ve never tried it…There seems to be a common misconception that goat’s milk tastes “goaty”.

Let me tell you, goat milk is one of the most delicious, sweet creamy milks you could ever drink. If it tastes bad, then something is wrong. The flavor of milk can be affected by so many different things!

Milk that isn’t fresh does not taste good. A goat’s diet can influence the flavor of their milk. Mineral deficiencies, parasite load, and general health of the goat, can have an impact on the flavor of their milk. Clean milking practices and handling are just as important, and ensuring that milk is well filtered and cooled quickly after milking is also important.

Likewise, the pasteurized commercial goat milk you can buy from the grocery store, IS NOT the same as the amazing fresh raw goat milk you can get from the farm. It doesn’t even compare.

This post isn’t about comparing raw milk to pasteurized milk, it is simply to try and promote and make people aware of what they’re missing by not giving goat milk a try.

For those that haven’t tried it but are curious, I am always willing to give you a sample to “try before you buy”.

The last 2 days we’ve had flash flood water come raging through our pasture! Thankfully the goat shelters are built up on higher ground so they don’t flood out. But it’s washed out a section of our fencing that my husband had to get fixed asap so the guardian dogs and cows couldn’t get out! And just when we thought the storms were going around us yesterday evening we got about 3/4” in 20 min time and not long after we could hear the flood waters coming from the south again long before they hit our property. It sounds like raging rapids! So weird to hear it before you ever see the water. The bridge you cross to get to our house was covered in water as well and on Saturday my husband had to get his mini x out there to unclog the culverts from all the debris so the water could flow through. It’s been a mess this weekend that’s for sure! But it will be greening up out here for sure! It’s been several years since it’s been green from monsoon rains so we will take it!! We need all the rain we can get, just hoping for minimal destruction along with kit😅🙏🏻

I have several very nice Bucklings that are ready to go to their new herds and service your Doe’s for this breeding season. These boys have excellent pedigrees with powerhouse milk production genetics behind them. You will not be disappointed with what they will bring to your herd!

I also have a few younger sweet boys who will make great pets/companions/weed eaters. These boys are not culls by any means and I do not give away my wethers for nothing. They still have a lot of time and money invested in them. They’ve been disbudded, they are vaccinated and they come from a 100% clean tested disease free herd since we started in 2014.

💔It’s taken almost a week to finally post this because it’s been very upsetting for me😕 We lost the beautiful polled doeling that Lacey had a week ago😭 She looked and acted healthy and normal when she was born and everything was great the first day and a half with her. She was up and nursing and doing all the normal things a newborn kid does. I checked every 2-3 hrs making sure her and her brother were nursing and doing well. Then after the second night, that next morning when I went to weigh her again to see what she weighed compared to the day before I realized she hadn’t gained as much weight as I normally like to see. So I tried to give her a few ounces of milk from a bottle and she really didn’t want it. I then tried to get her to nurse on Lacey and again she didn’t want to. So I kept watching very closely all morning while I was out doing chores and milking etc. It was so weird because she just went downhill instantly it seemed. She became very lethargic and weak and wouldn’t nurse or do anything. So I started doing every I could to help boost her strength and to figure out what was going on with her. This was on the 4th of July and it was a very hot day. So I brought her in the house out of the heat and started caring for her inside. I gave her some warm electrolytes and noticed awhile after that she had not p*ed or p**ped at all. Her belly was getting big and round and it sounded sloshy. So long story short after starting antibiotics like our vet recommended, in case she had a enterotoxemia infection or something else and doing everything I possibly could for her, She continued to get weaker and still would not p*e or p**p and she could no longer stand etc. We lost her early Sunday morning and I am still so upset about it! Especially not knowing what happened to cause this when she was normal and doing well for the first day and a half after she was born. I had seen her p*e and p**p during that time as well. Only thing I can think is something internally wasn’t quite right.
I don’t know what changed so rapidly like it did. I’ve never had this happen before and ofcourse it was with the most gorgeous doeling who was polled on top of it. She was a keeper for sure! Now she’s gone😖

Kidding season for 2026 has finally come to an end! Just in time for the Bucks to go into Rut and for Breeding season to begin soon🥴

13 Does kidded this season with 28 kids being born. Final count we ended up with 10 Doelings and 18 Bucklings 😅 So with breeding season coming in hot, I have a lot of super nice bucklings that will be big enough and ready to breed with excellent genetics for high milk production!

Vid is of Veteran’s Sonic Boom Baby doing his Buck thing with his buddy LAME Acres Spartacus. 😅 This is just the beginning, it all goes downhill from here! The Bucks are all extremely fat and happy living their best lives out in the open pasture for the last 5 months when they haven’t been in rut. They look amazing right now, but sadly within a month they will already be losing weight and looking rough from all the urine scald and fighting that they will be doing 🤦🏻‍♀️

Lacey is in labor and so far has 1 doeling that was on the ground when I came out to check on her! Shortly after she pushed out a buckling. Not sure she has anymore in there but I’m giving her some time to see what else she does.

After all the comments about how Lacey was in distress 2 weeks ago and was going to need a c-section etc etc etc. She only had twins in there 😅 She birthed them quickly and easily completely on her own! Way to go Lacey Girl!! 🥳
