We love this story by Lisa Deadrick in The San Diego Union-Tribune featuring Hernan Cavazos, owner and lead farmer at Solidarity Farm SD in Pauma Valley. ☀️
According to Hernan, "A just food system would look like more farms, growing real food and local distribution channels that reach to neighborhood level. It would look like public investment in mentoring farmers, connecting farmers with viable farmland, and developing local food infrastructure to facilitate neighborhood-level delivery."

Voice of San Diego recently featured Solidarity Farm SD in their biweekly roundup of environmental news!
Solidarity Farm, a Solar Moonshot Program grant recipient, is a cooperative family farm that grows nutritious food through regenerative practices. They partnered with Pauma Band of Luiseno Indians to create the carbon sink farm at Pauma Tribal Farms to re-integrate indigenous foodways, create strategies for adapting to and mitigating climate change, and accelerate change in food and climate systems through partnerships.
In the Voice of San Diego feature, Solidarity Farm owner Elle Igoe explains the barriers to composting city scraps as a farmer and the multitude of benefits to composting. Check out the article on voiceofsandiego.org titled “Environment Report: Local Farms Want Your Table Scraps” 🌍
Have you heard of Foodshed yet? It's a new small farm distribution collaboration founded by Solidarity Farm SD in Pauma Valley and A La Vuelta Farm in City Heights. Check out the video and order fresh produce, pasture-raised eggs, and local artisan goods like jam from Oak Moon Kitchen and Pitchouline olive oil.

Solidarity Farms is a shining example of a regenerative farm. Looking through this page I could see the passion that this farm has for healing the environment. I learned about regenerative agriculture from the inspirational doc “Kiss the Ground” on Netflix. This movie explains that regenerative agriculture has the ability to sequester significant amounts of carbon from the atmosphere. The film features a multitude of activists that support this message, such as Ian Somerhalder and Gisele Bundchen. Check out the official Netflix page for the film below, and feel free to leave any thoughts or questions in the comments.
"No matter what happens today... we will keep planting seeds. ❤️, Your farmers"
The sweetest message came today with our CSA delivery. It filled us with gratitude for the people who continue to put seeds in the earth, no matter who is in office or how they treat food producers and workers. It also lit a fire under us to redouble our efforts to ensure that those in power DO uplift our most essential workforce.
Thank you, farmers, fishermen, farmworkers, food workers, small food business + restaurant owners who continue to nourish us through pandemics, wildfires and crazy election years. We with you in mind and are committed to the transformation that lies ahead, no matter what happens.

Did you know that October is California Farm and Farmworker month? According to California Grown, ‘tis the season to celebrate the people that keep us fed! Ways you can continue to support your farmers even as harvest season winds down:
🥦Find a nearby year-round Farmers Market and make attending part of your weekly routine
🥑 Check out the Directory to find a farm stand near you
🥩 Make a habit of checking the origins of your ingredients and buy from California producers whenever possible
🍓 Eat seasonally! This makes eating locally a cinch
🧄 Join a CSA
But, let’s be real, we believe in appreciating our farmers every month, day, and meal!
