Brigid's Farm

Brigid's Farm Small homestead farm in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont in the town of Peacham. Our fiber is either processed in the studio here or at small Vermont mills.

Brigid's farm is home to Border Leicester cross sheep, natural color angora goats and dairy goats. We specialize in a colorful range of naturally dyed wool/mohair blend yarns and custom handwovens. Brigid's Farm welcomes handweaving work from farms interested in products from their yarn and fiber. Each year Brigid's Farm offers breeding stock lambs and kids for sale. Our angora goats are registere

d with ACAGR, a registry for colored angora stock. The studio is equipped with 5 handlooms and several spinning wheels for classes in weaving, spinning and natural dyeing.

These are the warmest mittens I have ever worn. They are featured in the spring issue of Ply Magazine whose theme is Double Coated sheep. It's a gorgeous issue that includes articles and projects on sheep with two coats, an softer undercoat and a coarser hair-like outer coat.

These mittens were made from the wool of Karakul sheep, an ancient breed from Central Asia. I made them large knowing that as work mittens in a Vermont winter they would continue to shrink and felt from moisture, sweat, and the friction of carrying wood and other winter chores. The article includes spinning, naturarl dyeing and knitting instructions. They knit up very fast.

A snowy winter of outdoor chores means they are fully felted, warm and water tight. I love them.
